Why is it that when Derrek Lee was injured in 2006, I honestly had trouble eating for two days, but when Soriano gets hurt it really doesn't phase me that much at all?

I was pretty sick, too.

At the time Lee was one of the best players in baseball, (if he keeps up what he has done so far this year he still is). Soriano, right now, is playing like one of the worst players on the team. It seems like we have gotten more production from Theriot and Fontenot than Soriano.

If Lee keeps up what he's done so far, you could make the case that the injury cost him a legit shot at the HOF. If he duplicates that 2005 season, it would be reasonable to think he would have done that, or come close, from 2005 through this year. He lost out on a good 50-60 HR, and, coupled with the absurd use of extremely low OBP players in front of him, he's lost out on 200-300 RBI. Not to mention, stuff like gold gloves and MVP votes, which writers take into account when voting for HOF. Granted, he would have had to carry those numbers through for a couple more years, due to a relatively pedestrian start to his career.

In layman's terms, Lee is better at playing baseball.

Anyone care to try and guess tonight's lineup?

I'm guessing we see at least 3 second basemen in the lineup tonight.

Posted

SS - Theriot

2B - Fontenot

1B - Lee

3B - Ramirez

RF - Fukudome

LF - DeRosa

C - Soto

CF - Pie

I'm guessing he keeps Theriot and Fontenot in there tonight, but flips how they hit last night. Patterson was probably called up for his versatility moreso than his leadoff abilities. He will most likely see some action tonight though.

As I have spent considerable time on the subject, I would like to point out that yes, it is possible to not have 3 second basemen in the lineup tonight. The only way this can happen is if the outfield is some combo of Ward, Johnson, Pie, and Dome. This could happen, but I doubt it. and please please please no Reed in LF.

I predict 3 second basemen tonight.

I also predict that at some point before the end of Soriano's DL stint, we will achieve a lineup where all FIVE currently rostered 2B's are playing at the same time. It is actually sad how many ways we could currently do this.

Also, E-Patt playing CF is the key to really moving forward and increasing the number of 2B we can get into the lineup at one time. If he can play center, it really improves our versatility since we can run out so many different permutations of the available 2Bs.

Both lineups could have a Patterson leading off tonight, wouldn't that be something?

I wonder how Patterson would feel about the Cubs boo'ing his brother.

Patterson 2b

Theriot SS

Lee 1b

Ramirez 3b

Fukudome RF

DeRosa LF

Soto C

Pie CF

Zambrano P

That's the lineup that makes the most sense (outside of having Fuku leading off) to me. I just don't want Theriot leading off, or Lee/ARam/Fuku won't have to many RISP opportunities tonight.

Levine is saying that the Cubs expect it to be something that'll take care of itself within about two weeks.
