With the Cubs out of the race in '06, Baker often played veteran Neifi Perez over rookie Ryan Theriot, leading to criticism he slowed Theriot's development.

"I don't think that's a fair criticism," Theriot said. "Neifi was a great player, and a proven veteran, a guy that did a lot of good things for a long time. There's a flip side you never hear about. He could've thrown me to the wolves and it could've turned out bad. I learned a lot just sitting back watching. There wasn't very much pressure, so just sit there and understand the big-league life. I learned from guys like Neifi and Todd [Walker]. They taught me a lot. One thing Dusty did do, when he started seeing some confidence, a couple good games in a row, he kept throwing you back out there."

There are so many ironies in this statement.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

LOL at Theriot's "development" possibly being stunted.

What ever happened to Todd Walker anyway?

He transformed into Ceda.

And I think he got released by the Pads last year in spring training, after having accepted arbitration.

In Theriot's defense, he doesn't seem like the type of guy who would slam a former teammate. Not to mention it would be very stupid of him to criticize anyone seeing as the reason he has a job is that he "plays the game the right way" mouthing off about a former teammate and claiming you should be playing ahead of him is not "playing the game the right way"

I didn't expect him to say that Neifi sucked out loud. Couldn't he have told a much more defensible lie like "Neifi deserved to be there," or something?

In Theriot's mind, Neifi probably is a great player. He's managed to do nothing with the bat but has hung around the majors for years. Theriot should wish he has the same career.

Yeah you're probably right.

Yeah you're probably right.

We Hawkeyes have got to stick together. Your avatar is an Iowa wrestling logo, no?

I think it's just a general logo used for all sports but they have a very similar logo where Herky is dressed in a wrestling getup. I think the poster Bob Sanders has the wrestling logo as his avatar.

The more important question is, which horrible SS will the Cubs end up with next that has kind words for Ryan Theriot?

Maybe Izturis has some kind words for him.

This is a big deal in what way again?

So he said he thought Neifi was a good player. And? How would the reaction be if Derrek Lee said the same thing (and he probably would, too)?

just because I don't share the same opinions as you doesn't automatically make me a troll alright? Please understand that because I do not come here to troll. I have come here because I have been long time reader and hope to post here for a very long time. I have been a life-long cubs fan since I was like 5. My mom and dad raised me that way, especially my dad. I'm sorry I don't share your opinions about the direction of the team but I can assure you I share the same love for this team. 2003 was the closest I've ever come to cubs blissfull happiness. We all know what happened but our differences is just that, a difference of viewpoint. As long as I am a respectful and kind poster I think we can co-exist here. I've been thinking alot after joining this board and I do think I may be living in the past a bit. But honestly, what is wrong with that? I fell in love with that team and I guess it's just hard to let go. I actually think I am a very optimistic person but I just don't like the way we are heading, especially after the loss of Prior, Nomar, and the waste of money in Soriono (hey 2000 called they want their all-star player back). So please, I hope we can keep this channel of communication open and be nice to each other from now on. I really would appreciate if you would stop calling me a troll because I am not a troll. There is also no need to make fun of me. I'm a huge cubs fan and if you saw my pajama's you definitely know that for sure.
