That also ignores that for many of those AB's he was in a platoon role which is more favorable.

 

If I'm being simplistic, it's because this is very simple and that's all this requires. Soriano is a much better player and it doesn't help the team to downgrade talent everyday.

 

Agreed. But when the more talented player is very overrated because of his poor OBP and need to bat in a non-optimal lineup spot, the downgrade doesn't have to be significant or noticeable.

 

Regardless of OBP, Soriano is still definitively a better offensive player. He's also better defensively and has more speed. Lineup order doesn't offset the fact that you have an inferior player in that lineup everyday.
