leadoff isn't a position, etc.

No, but Center field is. I know, hes a left fielder, but surely, with his speed he could handle center, or put Fuku there and put Kenny in Rt.

he's also 100 years old and about 10% the fielder that Pie is

also, what more does Pie have to prove in AAA?

Felix Pie is young, and could benifit from another year in Iowa.

What more can he do/prove in the minors? Let him take his lumps and see if he can mke the turn to the bigs.

That would be true if he were on the Royals or Nats, but 100 years later, we dont need a guy trying to prove himself. We need an established leadoff hitter. Sure, idealy, Theriot would be replaced, but there isnt anyone available that can play short and leadoff.

established is the new word for old, eh>

I don't think the previous 99 seasons of failure should bear any weight on whether Pie is on the 25 man or 40 man roster.

It just struck me: Kenny Lofton is a free agent, and we dont have a solid leadoff man. Felix Pie is young, and could benifit from another year in Iowa. Ryan Theriot sucks at leadoff, but could be a decent 8 hitter.

I don't know about you, but after a .356 average in Iowa last season, I think that Pie has done everything he can in the minors. He now needs to see and get used to major league pitching. But he's been successful at every level along the way, so I don't see why it won't be solid in the bigs.

pie needs to OPS 1.200 in AAA before he has earned the right to play for the cubs.

A 1200 OPS in the PCL is meaningless.

certainly not as good as Lofton's .714 OPS in the majors

The only way I could justify taking playing time away from Pie for Lofton is if it realistically gave us a better shot at winning the WS. Any minor improvement that Lofton could possibly give us in very specific situations certainly wouldn't be enough to put us over that hump, and would be offset by any loss in defensive capability we would get at this point. Therefore, I'd say no. I wouldn't even platoon him, much less send Pie down in favor of him.

The 100 years is meaningless. We need to develop quality players from within the system. Let Felix play.

Lofton was an obvious signing to make, I can't believe Jim didn't even make an offer.

1) he might have

2) there is no reason to

3) Pie is a better defender

4) much higher upside

5) both struggle with lefty pitching

No team is interested in Kenny this early in the season. His age, and propensity to get injured, make him a smarter trading deadline pickup. However, the Cubs don't need him. They need to let Pie play for better or worse.

Kenny Lofton in right field is such a hilarious proposition.

At this point, Kenny Lofton is center field is a hilarious proposition.
