If the Reds take on that contract, or even half of the dollars associated with it, I will cry with laughter.

If the Reds simply take him, I'll be overjoyed!

I might just wet myself. THat would be spectacular.

Juan Pierre's days are numbered in LA.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade soon.

Here it is:

Reds get: Juan Pierre

Dodgers get: Jason Marquis

Cubs get: Jay Bruce

Baker is not the GM.

Are you kidding? When you hire Baker you hire his philosophys about managing and player acquisition. Wait until he starts complaining in the media about not having enough horses down the stretch or blaming his team's lack of success on one misguided principle or another that the GM isn't addressing. Eventually the front office realizes you have to let him have his way or die of annoyance.

And Krivsky's much better?

Krivsky has been fine other then "THE TRADEZ ZOMG!!!1111".This year will be his make or break year.

The Los Angeles Daily News suggests that Juan Pierre will enter camp behind Andre Ethier in their competition for the starting job in left field.

Pierre's fantasy value is based on his number of stolen bases, and being reduced to a pinch runner/hitter would obviously be a huge blow. Both Ethier and Pierre have similar splits against righties and lefties, so a platoon seems unlikely. Manager Joe Torre does prefer veteran players, and this could change if the Dodgers pull off a trade, but it is definitely a situation to monitor during spring training.

The Rangers reportedly were told Andre Ethier was unavailable after asking the Dodgers about him following their pickup of Andruw Jones.

We doubt Ethier is completely unavailable, but if the Dodgers are trying to move Juan Pierre instead, it'd be a very good sign for their fans. The Rays were also believed to be interested in Ethier, but that probably changed with the signing of Cliff Floyd.

Baker is not the GM.

Yet, look how much power he had over Hendry's moves in Chicago. Be prepared to have him coerce Krivsky into deals. That is unless Krivsky is more strong-minded than Hendry and will not fall for old Jedi tricks.

Baker may not be the GM, but his quotes indicate that he has a role in player acquisitions. He says that he has spoken to Lofton and Patterson. So either Baker is involved in identifying players he wants Krivsky to go after, or he at least believes he has a role. Baker also seems to be aware of the roster crunch in getting a player like Lofton or Patterson.

Based on his quotes, it seems to me that Baker is actively involved in helping Krivsky make-over the roster, as frightening as that may be for Reds fans.

Ah yes, "maybe" signing one player to a one year deal is most definatley "making-over the roster."

Ooops, I forgot Krivsky is the GM. I guess we'll have to send the Reds Cotts to complete the deal.

hes a dumbass for that alone. the reds organization is run by a people dumber than the people who run the cubs organization, and that's saying something.

I believe he is saying that he has also been looking for a true leadoff hitter, as has the rest of MLB. This leads me to wonder why nobody in MLB has been able to find a true leadoff hitter, and I am left to believe that the reason is that a true leadoff hitter does not exist. It's a myth. Like bigfoot, but more annoying.

He then questioned whether a group of forum posters is smarter than employees at MLB teams. The same employees of MLB teams who value wins for pitchers and saves.

When the Reds get Corey Patterson, Dusty will point out Corey's skin color as the reason he is getting more playing time than Bruce. I can't have a white guy running around the outfield in the heat of Summer.
