Saw this on a south side message board:

"Bill Madden from the NY Daily News was on WEEI's baseball show Sunday morning and said something in passing that I found interesting.

The Royals who turned down the chance to move to the NL a decade ago have reconsidered things and have asked Bud about changing leagues. They cite being between St Louis and Denver as being a reason and would love being in the same division as the Cards.

Now Madden claims the Brewers would not mind coming back to the AL. The Brewers ownership has discovered that many fans miss the AL and that was brought home last April when the Indians drew very well on short notice when games were moved to Milwaukee. They have also found that Brewers fans resent Miller Park becoming Wrigley North when the Cubs play there.

On the surface it seems like a win win for everybody."

What do you think? Plausible? Desirable -- from a Cubs point of view?

it's their own fault that miller park is wrigley north. the team doesn't sell itself well in the community and everyone knows that when there is an opportunity, cub nation will take over and make you a visitor in your own ballpark (see turner field, atlanta 2003).

if given the opportunity bush stadium could become wrigley south. quite often cincinnati becomes wrigley central. if they don't like being the cubs b!tch, be a better team and beat us then.

Record wise it would certainly help the Cubs, but I have to say I'm warming to the Cubs/Brewers rivalry. Ultimately, it would help the Cubs have more chances of reaching the playoffs so I suppose I would be in favor of it.

I couldn't possibly care less about the fake, forced Brewers/Cubs "rivalry." There's nothing there. There wouldn't be more of one with the Royals, but at least the Cubs would be more likely to win at least a few more games because of it.

Why's it forced? The teams are clearly the best two in the division and the competition between them has been entertaining the last couple of years. It would have to continue for a few years to be a "bona fide" rivalry, but it's certainly gotten off to a decent start.

From a purely selfish perspective, I'd love seeing the Brewers out of the Central and the Royals come in. That'd definitely be a great boon for the Cubs.

However, from a perspective that's a bit more on the objective side, I really like having games up at Miller Park and enjoy seeing the rivalry between the Brewers and Cubs begin to develop. Cubs fans can easily make the drive from Chicago to Milwaukee, but Chicago to Kansas City? That's a bit more difficult.

I really doubt this will happen any time soon, though.

The Royals are just a pathetic organization. They've only had 2 winning records in the past 15 years.

Yeah, but there's a giant water feature just beyond the outfield wall.

Kaufmann Stadium is actually a nice place to watch a game.

just when you though the NL central couldnt get worse. Take the best team in the division and trade them for the ROYALS.

Selfishly, I'm down. It' just a 4 hour drive and I could see the Cubs every year.

The Cubs aren't getting traded, the Brewers are.

I think it would be good. Being a Seahawk fan (NFL) it's great that you go to a division with less competition, but you still have to make it to the end! I realize that the Cubs aren't moving but if the competition is easier... having more chances gives you more opportunity. I still believe that on any day any team can beat any other team.

meh. people talk about it like it's some gem but it's never been anything special, and really, with no fans in the outfield, it almost feels like a minor league game.

But that's cool, they're renovating the stadium just in time to switch leagues.

I won't call the Cubs/Brewers rivalry "forced", but it is still a nice rivalry. There have been "moments" that have made the rivalry intense. Like how about that weekend in September of 1998? When the Cubs took 2 of 3 from the Brewers and the scores of that weekend were, 13-11(Mil), 15-12 (CHC), and 11-10 in 10 innings (CHC)? That was arguably one of the most EXCITING weekends in Cubs history. And the ONE at-bat, I remember was Orlando Merced's bomb to end the 2nd game, in which the Cubs score 5 runs in the 9th to beat Milwaukee.

With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing the Brewers back in the AL. And it makes sense to move the Brewers back to the AL, because they DON'T have a NATURAL rivalry (ala Cubs/Cards, KC/ST.Lou, Cubs/CWS) But the Brewers did have some nice rivalries with the Indians, the Tigers and especially against the Twins and White Sox. But somehow I just don't see Selig wanting to end that 'rivalry" he created between the Brewers and the Cubs. Not to mention defensively, it makes sense for the Brewers, because then they could rotate both Fielder and Braun between 1B and DH.

That Orlando Merced at bat was sweet. Aside from the rivalry issue, I personally enjoy having the ability to watch games a Miller Park, even if it is not a Cubs game. Even if the Brewers move to the AL, I'd go to see games there just to see baseball at a good facility (not a knock on Wrigley, but I do enjoy Miller Park).

There have been few moments in time, in which I felt "exhausted" after watching a Cub game, and two of those teams happen to be "Cubs/Brewers games" that ended in walk off homeruns. The Orlando Merced blast, and this past season, the ARam blast.

So to anybody who's knocking the Cubs/Brewers rivalry, needs to realize both teams are now becoming good, which means are going to take on a more "intense" feeling.

now all we have to do is trade the cards for the marlins and the astros for the d-rays.

cubs

royals

pirates

reds

d-rays

marlins

jackpot.

You're forgetting one little thing. The Cubs can't beat the Marlins to save their lives.

Hmm. Let's see.

9-9 vs. the Reds last year, including losing 7 of the first 11.

0-6 vs. the Marlins last year.

8-7 vs. the Pirates last year, including losing 6 of the first 10.

All those teams have some of the best young talent in the game, while the Cubs have little. The Cubs don't do well vs. young talent.

to me it makes more sense to ship the astros to the AL. they'd have the rangers for rivals, they really dont have rivals in the central anyway. the moves arent made often, so i would ignore current talent when you're considering how this would effect the cubs.
