  1. did you happen to catch the part where it said this began when she was 15? By "this" their friendship began. So far no one, Clemens, McCready, or her father have admitted that they slept together when she was 15. If you are going to believe McCready when she said they did have an affair after she was 18, you should believe her when she says they did not have sex at 15. It makes for a good story, albeit one with no proof. i'd still like to know what a 28 year old guy is doing hanging out with a 15 year old girl. Planting the seeds of a future affair with a legal, teenage "hottie"? I use the term hottie very loosely in this case. Maybe, just maybe , planting the seeds is the wrong thing to say here. Perhaps, building a strong foundation to a lasting non-sexual til Dean Cain broke her little heart friendship, would fit better.
  2. I hate the DH! I like it when the manager has to decide if he should pinch hit for a pitcher doing well. Or maybe leave him in, see if he can get a hit or a walk, or cause some odd error. Maybe replace him with a pinch hitter who doesn't get the job done. Then has to come out the next inning with someone else and hope they can throw strikes. I think it adds a lot more to the game than saying this is the lineup wake me when it is over.
  3. Most likely that the Cubs won because even a blind squirrel finds a nut. Someone in the front office realized how much more money they could make by actually winning. Thus the commitment of more money to improve the team.
  4. In 2003 Dusty took the credit for turning the losers into winners. The Cubs won and Dusty was treated as a god. Did he deserve it? No. No more than Jim Frey, Don Zimmer, or any other manager at the time the team played well enough to win. But I can remember how they all were "great managers" because the Cubs had won. Now they didn't win the World Series. They won the division. They didn't get to the World Series. Did they suddenly get stupid when the playoffs started? No. The teams weaknesses were exposed and they couldn't win the games they had to win. The manager gets the credit when the team does well and the blame when the team does poorly. My point of this rambling is that Dusty can be defended for some of the things he did. But there are so many things that made no sense. Be it lineups, players he wanted signed, pitcher abuse, double switches that didn't work, double switches that were not reported to the umpire correctly, stupid fishing analogies, players that saved the season, or any other dumbass things that I don't remember. I will never expend the energy to boo Dusty, much like I would not boo my ex wife,(somethings just are not worth the effort),and I will never say a good thing about his managing style or abilities. This being enters with apologies for spelling, grammar, punctuation errors, and incoherent ramblings of a middle aged grumpy semi drunk man.
  5. Unless you have a game where everybody plays! The way this one turned out that may have been the perfect roster move. However, the way management gets tunnel vision this could be the end for Pignatello.
  6. If I were the Brewers I wouldn't want to play Detroit and Cleveland for the division each year.
  7. At my advanced age, I was raised with batting average, rbis, and home runs were all you needed to know. It hasn't been easy getting past that. But these posts are a great help in understanding what the stats are and why they are used. Hate to stroke your ego,not that you need any help, but I do look forward to reading your posts. Thanks a lot.
  8. Sorry if this has been mentioned, but does Jason Kendall really suck?Or was that a made up title to cover up the violence in this thread?
  9. How about getting Greene first, then pickup a center fielder. I would be for signing Kenny Lofton. Or some other available short term contract.
  10. Except the Cubs have no business merely being "pretty hopeful". There's no excuse for such a high payroll and such weak competition to leave you with anything short of extreme confidence that the team is great. This is Hendry's mode of operation. Put together a roster and hope everything works out for you. What is wrong with spending $120,000,000 and knowing you will be a contender?
  11. When I heard of the Tejada trade, I thought it was the first step in a series including Roberts to Cubs for Cedeno and others.
  12. Wasn't Girardi credited with alot of pitcher abuse during that season? My memory could be failing at my advanced age. Where did I leave my teeth?
  13. I curse Dane Cook all the time.
  14. If he hadn't cleared waivers and the White Sox had pulled him back I would have double crapped. Surely they would have dumped him to get out of that contract.
  15. Dear Mr. Jersey If we would ever meet I owe you a beer. You have summed up my Cubs fan attitude perfectly. Thank you.
