In 2003 Dusty took the credit for turning the losers into winners. The Cubs won and Dusty was treated as a god. Did he deserve it? No. No more than Jim Frey, Don Zimmer, or any other manager at the time the team played well enough to win. But I can remember how they all were "great managers" because the Cubs had won. Now they didn't win the World Series. They won the division. They didn't get to the World Series. Did they suddenly get stupid when the playoffs started? No. The teams weaknesses were exposed and they couldn't win the games they had to win. The manager gets the credit when the team does well and the blame when the team does poorly. My point of this rambling is that Dusty can be defended for some of the things he did. But there are so many things that made no sense. Be it lineups, players he wanted signed, pitcher abuse, double switches that didn't work, double switches that were not reported to the umpire correctly, stupid fishing analogies, players that saved the season, or any other dumbass things that I don't remember. I will never expend the energy to boo Dusty, much like I would not boo my ex wife,(somethings just are not worth the effort),and I will never say a good thing about his managing style or abilities. This being enters with apologies for spelling, grammar, punctuation errors, and incoherent ramblings of a middle aged grumpy semi drunk man.
