I know I'll be hit with all kind of stats, but He did hit .269(not horrible) with 35SB last season, and did a bit better the year before, plus a phenomanal fielder. Right now, we're without a definite CF, and we could get Corey for cheap, if nothing else, with a 1 year deal while we see what becomes of Felix Pie.

I guarantee, hed already be in Cincy if they didnt have 37 outfielders.

The answer to your question (in the thread title) is "yes, probably".

That move would make no sense for the Cubs, imho.

Unless they include Pie in the package to get Roberts or to get that pitcher from the Jays that's not Brad Penny. Under those conditions Patterson would be a placeholder until Colvin is deemed ready.

I doubt it happens though.

I don't get the impression that Corey enjoyed his time in Chicago very much, and I'd attribute the modest success he had to the change of scenery. Fans were ruthless in their booing when he stunk, and I really feel that further perpetuated the stinking. C-Patt's got a boatload of talent and it's too bad things didn't work out. Before he got hurt in 03, I was sure we were witnessing the ascension of our next superstar. But that ship has decidedly sailed.

I still have a place in my heart for Corey... and at least with him, we KNOW what we're going to get, anything more is a bonus. I still feel like he can become a pretty good player.

Bringing in Corey Patterson to stunt Felix Pie's growth, in turn making Felix Pie the next Corey Patterson, would be the single dumbest move the Cubs have made in recent memory.

If anything, wouldn't thrusting Pie into the majors too soon be what would stunt his growth and make him "the next Corey Patterson" (again, if anything), seeing as how many feel Patterson didn't develop enough at the minors and was promoted through the system too quickly?

That said, I think Pie has proven what he needs to prove in the minors and now needs to show he can do it at the MLB level. It's just that I don't see how having an insurance policy that would, if he's not ready, possibly keep him in the minors another year (he turned 23 4 days ago) would stunt his growth and turn him into the next CP.

I'd be all for a gold glover with 50 SB potential...but he wouldn't come back to Chicago. The fans treated him like crap when he was here...would you come back if you were him?

I know I wouldn't want to come back as the "bust" that Corey is and "block" the next great CF. Although it would be sweet to come back and become the player everyone thought you could and send that next great CF packing. Won't happen though.

Do you really think there is even a 1% chance of him becoming what he could have been?

Corey has the worst plate discipline/strike zone judgement out of just about any player I have ever seen.

In my mind, he's proven everything he needs to in the minors. The fact that he's only 23 really doesn't matter, since he started in full season ball when he was 17. We just need to let him play, watch him struggle mightily the first two months, and then reap the benefits for the rest of the season and beyond.

Did you read the sentence after that? I just meant that'd be about the only positive to draw from it, from his perspective.

I don't know if C-Pat would even want to come back to Chicago. I'd love to see it happen, but that also means Pie isn't going to grow as a player. Unless one of them is moving to a corner outfield position.

I still have all my Patterson stuff on the wall downstairs, it won't come down. People just look at them and my Prior stuff and start laughing.

they should definitely show Pie videos of Patterson and Choi's big loopy swings to show him how NOT to approach hitting at the major league level

Uhm, no, I'd rather not bring back the guy with the career OBP under .300 who is coming off an 8 HR season. Might as well bring back Macias while we're at it too.

Corey wont come back to play baseball for Chicago ... as opposed to what? Unloading boxes at the UPS dock?

Patterson will turn 29 this season. Why do people think he could still turn into a good player?

you realize people were suggesting if the cubs trade pie they should make a effort to go get Coco Crisp.
