a young person driving after drinking? that NEVER happens. shocking!

When you were just in trouble for a similar occurrence and you have been warned by the Bears to quit it, it should be shocking.

actually he got in trouble because some guys who barely graduated hs in texas decided to try to bully a rich black man

If you don't think there's something strange about what happened in the lake incident, I don't know what to say.

If you think it's acceptable to drive drunk, I also don't know what to say. Well, just hope you or someone you love isn't on the streets the time the DUI guy crashes.

I think there's something strange about the lake incident, but I don't think it went down exactly like Ced says either. This latest DWI only reinforces that hunch.

Yeah, I think Benson kinda loses the benefit of the doubt with recent events.

I'm pretty sure that Benson was under the influence on the boat. But I'm just as sure the police were completely out of line in that situation too. However, after this recent DUI arrest, it doesn't matter what's true or not. You gotta side against Benson now. Not a smart idea for a guy already on thin ice and in trouble w/ the law. Plenty of reason for the Bears to cut him now.

You can't be serious.

i think all most all law enforcement agencies in the us no matter how small require a bachelors degree

I'm not arguing against that. I'm sure the cops were a bit out of line although their degree really doesn't have anything to do with that. But as others said, I'm less inclined to believe his version of the events now.

That's just stupidity on a massive level. You aren't in great standing, your team drafts a RB in the second round, you have the incident on the boat and you still decide to drive drunk? There's absolutely no excuse for not hiring a driver or using a taxi/limo.

While vague, it sounds like it could have been a lot worse:

Trib[/url]"]According to a police arrest affidavit obtained by the Austin American-Statesman, an Austin officer saw a silver BMW with Texas plates cross three lanes from the right lane and come to a quick stop Saturday. The driver, Benson, failed to signal, and when the car stopped, a pedestrian jumped out of the way, according to the affidavit.

Benson, who told police he had one mixed drink of vodka and 7UP, had a strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot and glassy eyes, and a talkative and cocky attitude, according to the affidavit. He was unable to keep his balance without swaying and staggered while he walked, the affidavit said.

Benson's lawyer, Sam Bassett, said his client had 2-3 alcoholic drinks but performed well on the field sobriety tests, which he said were video recorded and will exonerate Benson when made public.

WMAQ-Ch. 5 reported Sunday night in a blog on its Web site that Benson sent a text message to reporter Peggy Kusinski, who is on maternity leave, declaring, "I aced the field test, check the video."

Meanwhile, the Bears appear to be impressed with Forte:

"I love Matt Forte," Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner said Sunday during a break at the Bears Expo. "He will definitely be an every-down back. He's got the size, he's got the hands. He's smooth as an athlete, very smooth."

Turner said Forte is picking up the Bears' offense quickly.

"After nine practices, I'm not afraid to call anything in the offense with him. He's made a couple of mental mistakes, but not very many. He's handling it very well."

Benson said he had two or three drinks for dinner, but he was pulled over at what, 2 or 3 in the morning? That is way past dinner. Was he administered another test at the station or once you decline a field sobriety test you are automatically charged with DWI?

not true. my dad's a cop and he never went to college. however, he spent 23 years air force pararescue as a squadron leader.

but my uncle is also a cop and they pretty much deputized him when he went to file for unemployment.

Sun-Times reporting that Benson showed up at Halas Hall today and was sent home by the team.

Doesn't sound good for Ced.

Channel 7 is reporting that Benson showed up at Halas Hall today and was sent home by the team.

That would explain why the Bears said he was in Chicago despite not being at practice despite saying he would be.

More cause for Benson to drink. IL police be on the lookout.

Benson is officially gone per ESPN1000.

Well that was quick.

Yeah, I wonder who will pick him up. Forte FTW. Great draft pick so far.

The Bears will likely be picking up a RB, unless they are dumb enough to guarantee a second round rookie a starting role before training camp begins.

I really hope that RB they pick up isn't Shaun Alexander. Who else is out there though?

Funny that the Bears are going to open up the season with 1-2 new WRs, a new starting RB, and a 2 headed QB competition.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson has been released following his second alcohol-related arrest in a month.

General Manager Jerry Angelo said Monday that Benson displayed a pattern of behavior that the team will not tolerate.

Benson was arrested on a drunken driving charge in Austin, Texas, early Saturday after failing a field sobriety test. The former first-round draft pick was also arrested May 5 and charged with boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest on a lake near Austin.

Benson said he didn’t feel as if he were drunk and denied that he was speeding. Both cases are pending.
