so now the list of RB's the bears have invited to chicago:

" recently having University of Texas' Jammal Charles, Tulane's Matt Forte, and University of Arkansas' Felix Jones in town for visits. It now appears the the Bears are spreading the pond, having met with University of Illinois' Rashard Mendenhall on Thursday and University of Central Florida's Kevin Smith this weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times."

Big fan of Charles.

Charles is a track star trying to become a RB. It would be a wasted pick.

Harris is another guy who I love, but can't get the injury concerns out of my head. Last year really changed things; he never recovered from that hammy and I don't see any assurances that he ever really will.

Some people see the glass half full, some people see it half empty, Soul sees it as rancid milk, with maggots crawling out of the glass, and a giant turd floating in it.

Seriously man, the bolded is about a pessimistic as one could possibly be about anything. He came off hamstring surgery, played through an injured knee for most of the season, and recorded 8 sacks. I don't see how you could possibly say that he gave you no indication that he'll ever be the same. What exactly are you looking for out of a defensive tackle?

Is it true that his hammy didn't fully heal all year long? Yes.

Is an injury that doesn't heal during an entire calendar year a concern? Yes.

End of story.

Pretty sure that's not the end of the story, doctor. I'm not even sure that #1 is correct. Was it his hamstring or his knee bothering him last season? Even if it was his hammy, I'm not sure why one year is the "He'll never be the same again!!!" point.

Tommie's an elite tackle and played at an extremly high level despite being banged up last year. Take a deep breath.

Disagree. I think he'd be a great value and a good fit.

This isn't an exact science, though.

dabryan blanton was a track star masquerading as a RB. Charles is legit at both, though he's nothing but a change of pace guy in the nfl

I think he can be a factor if used correctly. He would be a great addition to the Bears RB core as the rest of them run as if they are stuck in waist deep mud.

Harris had a back injury that bothered him most of last season in addition to his knee and hamstring injuries. He also had a minor groin injury at one point.

In regards to his knee:

Sun-Times on 4/9[/url]"]There are issues for the Bears to be concerned with as they consider how long Harris can remain an elite performer. He played on a bad left knee last season but didn't miss a game and had a career-high eight sacks. Dr. James Andrews certified to the team after arthroscopic surgery in January that Harris doesn't have a degenerative condition in the knee. He had major surgery to repair his left hamstring in 2006.

Not a fan of Charles on the Bears. A change of pace back isn't good when you don't have a RB to change the pace from.

I like how Davis, Bradley and Hass have played for 1 team in their very short careers yet are considered journeymen. Is good to hear that they seem confident in Beekman.

BTW, did I hear correctly that Branden Albert is good enough to play Left Tackle in the NFL? If so, makes him an easy pick over Williams/Otah to me.

You heard correctly. I think Albert is the best choice too.

Schedule seems pretty easy this year, no? Not that we'll be great, but we could win 10 games with that schedule I think.

I don't like the first 4 games of the season. I think we might start 1-3

11th most difficult. The Patriots have the easiest schedule. Chargers have the second easiest.

*deep breath*

I know he played at a very high level despite injury. No questioning the man's heart. My recollection was that he was fighting through both the knee and the hammy. The hammy was just something he was learning to live with. The knee -- I understood that would get better.

How does a team that was in the Super Bowl have the easiest schedule in the league?

The same reason they had such an easy ride to 16-0, they play in the pathetic AFC East.

Yea after I typed that I started thinking about their division.

I've said this before, the NFL schedules aren't that hard to figure out.

2008

NFC North vs. AFC South

NFC North vs. NFC South

2007

NFC North vs. NFC East

NFC North vs. AFC West (if you remember, Bears played NYG, PHI, WAS, DAL, SD, DEN, OAK, KC last year)

2006

NFC North vs. NFC West

NFC North vs. AFC East (if you remember the SB year, the Bears played SEA, ARZ, SF, STL, NE, MIA, BUF, NYJ)

2005

NFC North vs. NFC South

NFC North vs. AFC North (if you remember this year, Bears played PIT, CLE, BAL, CIN, ATL, NO, CAR, TB)

So, can you guess the 2009 schedule? Yes, you can. Bears (along with DET, MIN and GB) will play the normal rotation of the NFC West and AFC North (unless the rotation gets changed).

Every team in every division does this with 2 other divisions every year. These 8 games are determined every year regardless of how each individual team finishes. 6 other games are 2 each vs. the division. That leaves 2 undetermined games per year. Whatever team each individual team finishes, they will play the other 2 teams in their conference that finished in the same place in their division standings. Keep in mind you already playing a complete other division in the same conference so you already play the team that finishes in the same place as you.

That's how you have NE with an easy schedule (besides just their division) because they lucked out enough to play weak NFC West and mediocre AFC West. And how you have teams like Baltimore having a tough schedule because they get the misfortune of playing the 2 toughest divisions (AFC South, NFC East) in the same year.

Packers

Vikings

Lions

NFC South

10-12 wins with that schedule, imo.

When the Bears went to the Super Bowl in 2006, they had the easiest schedule in the league that year I believe even though they had the first or second best record in the NFC the year before. The NFC Central/North was just plain terrible. But remember, although the Patriots have the easiest schedule based on last season's record, many teams improve from season to season which could mean they have a much tough schedule than was originally thought.
