I saw this on rotoworld and found it interesting.

Sankei Sports in Japan reports that the Nippon Ham Fighters might be willing to post 21-year-old right-hander Yu Darvish after next season if he's interested in playing in the majors.

If he's posted, I could see his posting fee being higher than Matsuzaka's was.

Just doesn't make sense for the Nippon Ham Fighters to do it yet. His posting fee would be way more than Daisuke's.

At least the Cubs should finally have their new ownership in place by then -- I would think that would help keep them a serious contender for him.

Wouldn't that be a major reason WHY they would do it? This might have been mentioned before, but does the team get to use some of that money towards player acquisitions?

They can keep him for a few years and not worry about a drop in posting fee (barring injury). Have your cake and eat it too, if you will.

Historically, teams in Japan have been viewed and used as marketing vehicles for their parent organizations. Although this is starting to change somewhat, I suspect most of the posting fee would go directly to Nippon Meat Packers, Inc. I'm not sure how that would make a huge posting fee less attractive.

How adamant is he to not playing in the US like rotoworld states?

His father is Iranian and I suspect our current foreign policy in the Middle East makes him feel uncomfortable.

IDK if I should be impressed, or ask her out.....oh wait........

THAT'S A DUDE.....

(Grabs a bottle of Jack and downs it.)

You should check out his website. It's kind of unsettling. Not that there is anything wrong with the website.

Ha! The LR pic is funny...

Joking?

I mean, his dad went to FSU and obviously spent a lot of time in America. I don't think he's afraid to come to the US or that strained US-Iranian relations would make him not want to play on the world's largest stage.

Andre Agassi and TJ Houshmandzadeh never seemed to have a problem with playing in the US despite its foreign policy. Granted both were born in the US, but I think there's something more to Yu's resistance.

I wasn't joking. I haven't read any quotes from him that express a concern, but I read something a couple of years ago that suggested it. I don't remember the specifics other than what I posted, and I didn't read the Rotoworld blurb. Did they suggest other reasons why he doesn't want to play in the US?

That's a big granted but there certainly could be something more to Yu's resistance.

Hmm, interesting. I suppose that we can't rule anything out... it seems like we don't have a lot of material on the guy. Maybe he just loves being a star in Japan and is afraid that he won't be as successful here. Businessmen in poor countries don't want to come to the US for the same reason -- why risk it?

Either that or he loves the high quality sushi and kobe beef... I'm hungry.
