Just heard from an East Coast source that since the Red Sox will not be sending a CF to Minnesota, they are again actively (but silently) shopping Coco Crisp.

The source said the Cubs have shown "solid" interest in acquiring Crisp, but doesn't know what other teams are involved. Jim Hendry has supposedly offered some of his "inventory" of players. The players the Red Sox seem to be targeting, according to the source, are Wuertz, Murton and a starting pitcher (I asked if that meant a prospect or a guy like Marshall/Hart/Gallagher or perhaps a Dempster/Marquis type, but the source said no specific pitcher's name was mentioned to him).

Crisp makes $11M over the next 2 years and there is a team option of $8M in 2010. I'm not sure if he's worth 3 players like Wuertz, Murton and Marshall, but I am sure there are some players in the Cubs system that could make sense to trade.

I'll follow this the next few days to see if it's potential or just talk.

You mean Hoops (or his source, I guess) is completely making this up?

Either way, I'm on board the Crisp bandwagon too, though I hadn't realized how much his numbers had suffered since going to the Red Sox.

Yeah, maybe a change a scenery would help. He was going in a good direction after 04 and 05, but then crapped out in Boston.

When I saw this, I was thinking this is a follow up for a trade involving Pie, but then I saw the rumored players the Cubs would have to give up for Crisp and I really have to wonder. Edited by UMFan83

Looks like a back up plan if and when Pie is part of Bedard/Roberts deal.

But the rumored players are entirely too much for a player like Crisp

Well, I trust the guy, who told me, because he's the same person who told me that the Cubs would sign Wade Miller a few years back, and the same person, who told me in December that one other team had outbid the Cubs for Fukudome.

So, I am 100% certain he's not fabricating that the two teams have discussed Crisp, and I am 100% certain I am not fabricating anything he told me.

Thing is, his IsoD was his career best in 07, and 06 it was better than the year before (if I remember right from 5 min ago). His BA went down big time in Boston, though. Did he get unlucky in Boston BABIP wise? Was he getting lucky on Cleveland? Maybe some combination of the two?

It's funny because I'm looking at Crisp's career line of .280/.329/.409/.738 with an average of 12 HRs and 25 SB and that's give or take what I'd hope from Pie this season.

My thoughts exactly.

I think this actually makes a lot of sense. Crane said that the Cubs have 2 offers on the table to get them 2 big names whom arent pitchers. If the Cubs end up trading Gallagher and Pie for Roberts which would be ridiculous, then they could trade Murton, Wuertz, and someone like marquis/Dempster/marshall for Crisp and be set. I would rather keep marshall and i dont know what the red sox would do with another SP. They got Beckett, schilling, dice-k, wakefield, lester, and bucholtz.

Hoops is the NSBB "insider." Well, he and Bruce. Hoops is the OG, though.

I am neither an insider or the "OG" as you call it. Mr. Miles is both of those and much, much more. So, anything he says, would and should trump my information a thousand times over.

I just happen to be someone, like many of you I'm sure, who knows different people in many different walks of life. You build relationships and you hear things.

Schilling will be done soon. Wakefield too. And how in the world is Coco Crisp a big name? Even by your standards: He hit .264 and .268 the last two seasons.

You called the Lee trade way before the Bruce signal ever went up here. In fact, this forum wasn't even a year old at the time. You get the OG status.

And we appreciate your contributions, including the intelligent, non-rumnor based trades you sometimes propose.

I think this makes a lot of sense as a follow up trade with Pie being involved in the 1st one. Outside of that I don't really see it happening. I think he could be had for pretty cheap given his contract.

The amount of talent moving for Crisp will likely depend on how much Boston is asked to kick in to cover Crisp's contract. If the Cubs can absorb it all, it shouldn't take much to get him. If Boston is expected to pay half, it will obviously cost more.
