I've heard packer fans defend mark chmura when he was charged with raping a 17 year old girl ("they were both drunk and she consented!").

to be fair, he was found not guilty.

Don't let that silly little fact get in the way of rationality.

Noticed I said Chmura was charged--not found guilty. So don't let that "silly little fact" get in the way. Even though he admitted to drinking with a bunch of teenage girls (including his own child's babysitter, who accused him of raping her) in a hot tub. Those must be silly little facts, too.

I think you'll find this blog on the rationality of packer fans an interesting read:

Sweet, so just because some Packers fans support Chmura, that means all of them support him. I love assumptions.

flames, i respect you.

As a former member of the Fourth Estate in Milwaukee, I could tell you stories. Lots of stories.

Edited to add:

To be "fair" about this, the media feeds into this frenzy like no other market I've ever seen.

Back in 2002, Favre sprained his knee and had to come out of the game. The following day, three of the four television stations stumbled over themselves at a press conference the following day. There was live "team coverage" telling us that Brett Favre was actually going to be OK. Especially since the packers had a bye the following week.

So I got into a pretty lively discussion at the station where I worked at about how I thought this wasn't a "top story" for the 5:00 newscast. There were other stories going on in Milwaukee that merited greater attention. Although I was more than willing to concede that it would make a great story for the end of the "A" block, or the first block of stories in the newscast.

I was overruled because, I was told, "Packer fans want to hear this." So not only was it the top story, we were also treated to the reaction from players, coaches, trainers and fans on favre's injury. Even though, again, doctors said he was going to be OK. And of course, there was a two minute package--complete with medical analysis--on how the knee works, where the injury occurred and what kind of treatment favre would have to endure to get back on the field. All this took up the entire "A" block and spilled over to the "B" block as well. And it was not just my station. The other three covered the event with the same insane intensity.

Maybe that's why I dislike packer fans so much. Thankfully, I now work in Chicago.

Wow, that was therapeutic!

yeah, i don't think most packer fans were trying to say that it wasn't a bad idea for chmura to bang a 17 year old girl, considering that he had a wife and two kids, plus a large age difference. they were just saying that he wasn't a rapist, which apparently was true.

You mean Favre had ONE bad game in conditions that he said (prior to the game) were the worst conditions he had ever played in!?!??!??!

HOLY CRAP STOP THE PRESSES. Did you happen to see the conditions yesterday afternoon? It was like a white-out at one point. They did okay.

OF COURSE, I SAID IT WILL COME DOWN TO RUNNING THE BALL!!!!11!!1?!!?111!!!

Look at what Grant did yesterday, Favre managed the game, he didn't win it, Grant did.

Yes, if GB is down and they have to pass to get back into it, those weather conditions will play a factor!!!!11111111??????//?//?///////

If Green Bay wins a game, it's because of Favre.

If they lose a game, it's because the GM didn't get Favre enough of a supporting cast so he had to force the ball downfield for those 5 INTs.

I took this one from ESPN. Oooh this one sucks for them.

The Cowboys just wasted a 13-3 season, which matched the best in team history. They're the first No. 1 seed in the NFC to lose in this round since the NFL went to the 12-team playoff format in 1990.

That's going to be fun to watch.

I enjoyed watching GB not want to take the field against the Bears, we'll see if Farve wants to be out there.

This will be a running game.

Go Giants.

??

The Packers have played in cold weather before. Brett is awesome in cold weather in Lambeau.

Did you miss the Packers game at Soldier?

Did you miss the part where I said "in Lambeau?"

I thought about coming here and rubbing it in Vance's face. But then I realized -- as a Bear fan, I know exactly how he feels right now.

Those were 2 very good playoff games today.

The two games today were very entertaining as was the NE-Jacksonville. Though the Green Bay turned into a bit of a blowout in the third quarter, it was still a very fun game to watch because of the snow. All in all, I don't think we could have asked for a much better divisional round in terms of how entertaining the games were. Sure, you (not you in particular just other people) may not have liked the outcome of some of them, but they were still entertaining.

I'm so glad that I was busy last weekend and free this weekend and not the other way around. Hopefully the conference championship games next Sunday can be just as good.

You're missing the point here. They are the enemy, and enemies are always the same, regardless of who they are, just as long as they are the enemy.

these playoffs demonstrate why I would love a college football playoff. Is San Diego a better team than Indy? are the Giants better than Dallas? maybe not in the long term, but for one day they were, which created excitement, upsets, etc. now add in the passion of college football fans and you have an amazing thing

When the inevitable Packers/Patriots Super Bowl occurs, I am not watching TV for 2 weeks.

The one time I root for the Cowboys and they lose. I hate my life as it pertains to sports.

yes, there's also the regular season, which concludes with teams like indy, gb and dallas sitting a lot of their regulars for the last week or two because they're already locked into their playoff spot. 95% of people who don't want a college football playoff (16 teams, say) feel that way not because they think a playoff would be boring, but because it would cheapen what is the most important "regular season" in major sports.

and I contend that it the regular season being so "important" is ruining what could be a good thing

by the way, i heard on mike & mike that 25 teams have won a playoff game more recently than the cowboys. that leaves only 6 teams with a longer drought. wtg america's team!!!

Quick, figure out the 6 teams.

I'd venture a guess of Detroit, Arizona, Houston, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Kansas City?

I think Arizona beat the Cowboys in the '97 playoffs. I don't really remember though.

The TO press conference at the end of the game was very suprising. I am actually starting to really like the guy, and can't believe the complete 360 he has conducted.

So they did. Turns out Buffalo is the other team, thanks to the Music City Miracle.
