So now a QB has led his team to the playoffs with 9 TD's and 17 INT's....wow.

I knew Vince Young was bad, but I just didn't realize he was that bad. I'll never understand why they put him on the Madden cover.

Should be obvious why...

Seems like the first choices should have been (and might have been) LT, Brees, or Manning.

The silhouetted cover that EA released a few weeks before they announced who it was looked alot like Brees to me:

Next year it is going to have to be Tom Brady or Randy Moss. Although if either of them pass on it, it'd be cool if it was Brett Favre...sort of as a goodbye or something. If he really is retiring then it would break the Madden curse.

why oh why did i bench eli manning for the finals in fantasy football. :(

because he's a petulant, 12-year old looking punk?

How is he petulant, and how is he a punk? Other than be an average-good NFL QB that has helped lead his team to the playoffs in every year that he has been a fulltime starter, what has he done to make YOU dislike him so much? It seems that his greatest sin is that he isn't his brother.

"Boo Hoo! I don't WANT to play for San Diego! Daddy, make them stop drafting me!"

Your blind Ole Miss homerism makes you miss the fact that he is a whiny brat who sucks when the pressure is on.

That's fine and all, but your angst toward him makes it sound like he raped your wife or something.

My Ole Miss "homerism" doesn't blind me from thinking that it was a bitch move when he didn't want to go to the Chargers. He was crucified in local papers for it, as he should have been. However, he's not an arrogant person, he's never gotten into trouble, he doesn't run with a bad crowd, and he pretty much stays to himself. Truly an awful person who is to be loathed.

And it's not as if Eli is the only person to ever hold out and say that he didn't want to play for the team that did or was likely to draft him.

John Elway agrees.

He was the one I had in mind because he was also a No. 1 overall pick.

I'm pretty sure LT declined to be on there, and Manning is ineligible to be on there (he signed a deal with a minor company a couple of years ago). Young was more marketable than Brees in August, although anyone could have known he'd probably be terrible this year.

The AFC South finishes as the best division in the history of the NFL by winning percentage (42-22 overall, a .656 winning percentage). I never would have expected that at the beginning of the season, and I'm guessing they'll regress significantly next year, but it's been quite the year for the division.

They must have a heck of a running game and defense.

Yep. It's all about managing games with this team. LenDale White is over 1,100 yards rushing and as a team the Titans are over 2,100 yards.

Vince also has a 62.3 completion percentage and hasn't had a lot of help from a young group of receivers. He hasn't been good this year, but just looking at his raw TD:INT numbers is a little deceiving. If the Titans had a consistently good receiver for him to throw to, his numbers wouldn't be nearly as bad. He'll be fine given some time. Like CCP said, it was expected for him to be bad this year (hence the strong running game).

The defense is also excellent, allowing more than 21 points just six times this year and giving up just 18 points per game.

That's an odd sentence. It was expected for him to be bad, hence the strong running game. What does that even mean.

As long as its not Romo I'll be happy. He already has enough to deal with.

I think he meant that the Titans built the team around the strong running game, including spending 2 2nd round picks the last 2 years on runningbacks because they knew that Vince was going to struggle.

I think it makes a little more sense to assume they spent 2 2nd rounders on RB the past 2 years because they wanted those 2 RBs. I doubt they made a plan 2 years ago to draft Vince Young really early and then put all the attention on the running game because they knew he'd suck.

Once they hit rock bottom at 5-8, Carolina beat Seattle, nearly beat Dallas, and beat Tampa's backups. No team in the NFL is better at turning it on once their playoff hopes are in the toilet. Jerks.

DeAngelo ran for 120 - can we please, please, please start him over Foster next year, or are we content for DeShaun to average 3.5 yards a carry for the rest of his life?

Wise move would be to keep DeAngelo Williams in a similar, but expanded, role. He's a little dude, and I don't think he could carry the ball 300 times. I'd draft a RB on Day 1 if I were Carolina.

Just because Vince Young isn't an elite QB doesn't mean he's not one of the most marketable QBs in the game. In large part, he's filling Vick's shoes.

Not even close. Vick was a multi year national star in college and was doing big things in the pro. Young isn't just "not elite", he sucks. He's not anywhere near as marketable. 99.9% of the country knows him from the Rose Bowl and nothing more.

Young was also a multi-year national star in college. Most QBs are going to suck when their best receiving target is Roydell Williams. And he's a natual fit for Madden, when so many of the people who play it prefer to use teams with a running QB. That's a huge reason why Vick was so popular. Just about everybody I played against had the Falcons as their team of choice so they could run around with Vick all game. And now Young is becoming the player of choice most people like to use.

agreed. i always drafted Vick if I was doing a fantasy draft to start my team. roll out, check down, take off

Young does not compare to Vick. Vick's name was everywhere for 2 years. Young's only appeared late in his last year.

You don't think Young's name was out there after his amazing Rose Bowl performance the year before? The fact that he was one of the leading Heisman candidates from the beginning of his last year?

I think it was quite the opposite. Vick wasn't a household name until mid-way through the season that he went to the title game. Young was a huge name the day he ran all over Michigan in the Rose Bowl, and then just continued to get bigger through his national title game winning season until it culminated in his huge win over USC (in a game that a lot more people cared about than the title game that Vick was in).

Young was getting major pub starting with his great Rose Bowl performance against Michigan. Then he continued to get more once Texas started blowing everyone out of the water during their National Title year.

EDIT: Vick certainly got more but VY got more pub than you're giving him credit for.

No way. It wasn't even close. Vick was everywhere. He was the first next big thing. He was gong to revolutionize the position. Young had an amazing last game that vaulted him up draft boards, but before that he was not in the picture in terms of marketable QB talents. Even since being draft high, he's been a Madden cover boy and nothing else. There's been story after story about disappointments, but he's in a backwater NFL town, even in comparison to Vick, and he's quickly fallen off the marketability stage.

It's not even close to the Vick story. Young is more like Daunte Culpepper with a better college story.
