Royals agreed to terms with catcher Miguel Olivo, who had been with the Marlins, on a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2009.

He picked Kansas City over Detroit and Toronto. Olivo's career line of .239/.275/.405 is very close to John Buck's career mark of .237/.297/.408. Both players have good power for the position, but possess horrible on-base skills and struggle against right-handed pitching. Odds are that Buck will continue getting most of the playing time, though Olivo should end up with more at-bats than Jason LaRue did last year.

I knew he wasn't that great, but I didn't realize he was quite that bad.

Looking at his last 2 years hes averaged about 30 or so points below average NL catcher OPS. Compare that to Theriot being 85 points below average NL SS OPS.

I've actually been losing sleep at night not knowing where Miguel Olivo was going to play next year. Now that I know, I might be able to get those precious hours of sleep I've been deprived of since the season ended. Thank you, Kansas City! GOODNIGHT!

Actually, Olivo was on the list of guys I would like to sign to replace Blanco. I'd still prefer Lieberthal, though.

I don't know who's worse. LaRue or Olivo.
