That's going to be one busy booth.

He should probably join the TV booth instead to fill the roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes of blank air Hawk leaves available when the Sox are losing.

All the more reason for WGN to drop the Sox games and add more Cubs games!

Add more Cubs games? But the old "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and "The Jeffersons" reruns are ratings gold! Gold, I tell you!

Don't forget American Idol Rewind. I can't get enought of Justin and Kelly, Clay and the fat man, and the non-descipts from the rest of the years.

I guess you don't understand the superstation tax then. THAT is why all the games are not on WGN as in the past. Only teams paying it were Cubs, Sox and Braves. But since the Braves are no longer on TBS, it is down to the Chicago teams as the only ones on Superstation any longer.

This all started when the superstations (mainly WGN) and the NBA were butting heads over the Bulls games. The Bulls were good then and NBA was going to yank all games from the superstation and the agreement actually came down to the Bulls being allowed 15 Superstation games and there is some financial arrangement involved to show these games via the superstation. All has to do with markets. Hence, MLB and the superstation teams got together and worked out the superstation agreement to avoid any future issues. Superstation taxes were going up and that is why Cubs started farming out games to FSNC and then WCIU.

Not sure of the exact dollar figures but I know at one point it was saving the Cubs (not Tribune...the Cubs) upwards of $4 million in superstation taxes to show games on FSNC or WCIU. Which is why I found it perplexing that the Sox wanted to show games on WGN after a long hiatus of being solely on cable. I think that was part of the Bulls agreement actually to allow WGN rights to continue showing Bulls games.

They need to just make all the non WGN games be on FSN. WCIU games aren't available in the MLB EI package, which really bites for us transplants.

Well CSNC now but you know why games are on WCIU...to placate the non cable audience. Yes, Virginia, there are people who still do not have cable or satellite. I think you would be surprised just how many.

It sucks in general watching a game on WCIU..I seriously don't think they have upgraded their equipment since 1982.

That justification makes no sense seeing as how WGN is broadcast over the air and carries close to half of the games.

Quite simple actually. Those WCIU games are kept off the superstation and hence no superstation tax. If they weren't on WCIU, I can guarantee they would be on CSNC and not WGN for that reason alone.

Ok, but my point still stands. Putting games on WCIU to "placate the non cable audience" makes no sense, since the non-cable audience already gets close to half of the Cubs games already via WGN. Whether the games currently on WCIU would go to WGN or CSN is of little consequence. Why they are on WCIU in the first place is the issue, and you explanation does nothing to give us any idea as to why they are.

Can honestly say I don't know why they chose WCIU because I wasn't privy to that decision making. I do remember when they started moving those games in 98 that they moved them to CLTV which you need cable to receive. At the time, where I lived, we could not get cable and satellite would not have helped either to get the CLTV games since satellite doesn't carry that station.

However, I am saying if WCIU were not in the picture that those handful of games would be on CSNC not WGN so it is of consequence. I know, it's only a handful of games but when you don't have cable a handful of games is alot. Trust me, I have been there.

FWIW, Bruce Levine stated that he knows Stone declined a fulltime TV booth offer by the Sox that would have paid him $600,000 per season (I can't remember how long the proposal was for). Anyway, my guess is that Stone is holding out for the Cubs job (speculation is that new ownership may make changes in the booth OR Stone could be leaving himself available for the "consultant" position, that he's been lobbying for, within the new ownership group).

just wondering... how much do people in the booth normally make?

I thought i remembered BB initially signing a 3 year deal that paid him nearly 900,000/year..but i could easily be mistaken.

A color analyst making nearly $1 million per year? I don't buy that one bit.

Stone is very professional but I cannot see this ending well with Hawk in the booth. The first time Kenny boy whines about the umps or the "breaks" always going the other way I can see Stone saying something like "don't tell me how rough the water is hawk, they need to bring in the boat".

Stone's gonna be on the radio with Ed Farmer and Chris Singleton. Farmer's a homer, but obviously can't compare with Hawk. That quote about the rough water, was one he specifically used about the '04 team. Were you referencing that, or is that a coincidence?
