Thought I'd start a separate thread on this, since I hadn't heard about this before.

 

This is posted by davearm (one of our posters here) in the insider thread (about Roberts, Tejada, and Bedard) at OriolesHangout....

 

I said this elsewhere, but I've heard rumblings that the Cubs' "best case" involves Figgins in CF, Fukudome in RF, and Roberts at 2B.

 

I've also heard to look for the Cubs to step up their pursuit of Joe Blanton once some of these other situations get resolved.

 

IMO sending Pie to OAK for Blanton would be much more likely to happen than sending him to you guys for Roberts. As I said earlier, Roberts just isn't a big enough upgrade on DeRosa to do that.

 

Had anyone heard this before?

You might be right. I was getting a kick out of thinking about how those people would take this. I should start referring to myself in the 3rd person.

Yeah, the best is when you guys argue 1-1, followed closely by when you guys are arguing opposite sides of a debate and people confuse you.

I am gonna say that was Dave Kaplan who laid out this plan on his show as Hendrys plan A. I can say this is the first time I have seen the Cubs linked to Blanton. Edited by mdwilla

Me too. I like Blanton. Good fit for Wrigley Field. Career 105 ERA+. Good groundball pitcher. Proving to be an innings eater, having not pitched less than 198 in his career so far. Everything he does depends on BABIP. It was insanely high in 06, hence the bad year. It was around average (.275 ish) this year, hence the 105 ERA+. His K/9 jumped and his BB/9 dropped last year. I like him. Only 26.

Haha. This is random, and I may be a bit immature, but did you read what some Dodgers forum replied to a guy when he posted one of the insiders rumored trades? I don't know why but I was LMAO.

It does look pretty damn good on paper, although those SS and 5th starter spots are a freaking eye-sore. 5th starter not so much because of production in itself, but production/cost....

Hopefully a lot. I'd say 90-ish barring any injuries. It'll be enough to take the division again. Or should be, at least.

So, in this scenario, we traded for Brian Roberts, Chone Figgins and Joe Blanton and only gave up Pie, Murton and other random minor leaguers?
