It changed because Hendry needs to be fired. Hendry thinks Theriot was so good at SS last year (see Neifi: He saved us references from a few years back) and he isn't looking to upgrade SS.

Hendry's logic is what changes things.

Cubs need a SS, so he looks to sign a 2b. He does this every year. He spent the better half of 2006 trying to sign Furcal when the glaring hole was in RF. He also never bothered addressing RF in 2005.

After years, he's finally addressing RF, and instead of going after the best player, he's limited his search to a speedy power lefty hitter. There are no excuses left for why Hendry is still in this organization. That he hasn't been fired is further proof that there does need to be a complete overhaul of the entire organization.

We cannot expect to see competence on the field until there is competence in the front office.

There always has to be a whipping boy...

Trying to imagine Theriot's reaction if someone told him he didn't have any baseball ability to his face.

Does that mean we aren't allowed to criticize any player on this board? And who has said he doesn't have any baseball ability?

No, of course not. I know the poster was probably kidding around but to say, "How to be Successful in the Absence of Ability" is a little too hyperbolic for me.

That's not a bad price for a mini clinic. I wonder what he's teaching?

This is such a good set up for a joke I can't think of a good punchline to it and surprised no one else has opined on it

Don't blame me, this

He's right. Poop is funnier.

was my contribution to that thread.

But yeah when you're choosing between Izturis and Theriot, Theriot's a no doubt winner. When you're choosing between many options on the trade market and Theriot, different story.

They could have a grit-off at the end of the camp and give awards to the grittiest campers.

Something should be said for going from one of the worst teams in all of baseball to winning the NL Central.

Are you suggesting Theriot is the sole or even primary reason for the Cubs winning the NLC?

I wasn't referring to Theriot at all. That doesn't even make sense. More so the complete bashing of Hendry, who made some pretty good additions before the 2007 season.

Probably should have included quotes covering what I was commenting on:

not really theriot's fault... he gets the most out of his talent; unfortunately, he's not talented enough where he should be playing every day, but the cubs have him in that role

Yep. He is what he is and it's up to the Cubs to improve the talent at that position.
