• After outfielder Kosuke Fukudome signs, one potential backup plan for teams that lose out is free agent Milton Bradley. Bradley was last seen tearing his ACL in that bizarre tangle with his manager (Bud Black) in September. Teams that have kicked the tires on him report they've been told that doctors expect him to be able to play again sometime in April, if not Opening Day. His most recent team, the Padres, remains interested. Outside of Barry Bonds, Bradley is the only free agent who had a .500 slugging percentage and .400 on-base percentage last season.

This might not be a bad move if it's true.

he's definitely worthy of considering. i'd be very interested depending on cost, of course. i'd be interested with or with out Fukudome. an outfield of Soriano/Fukudome/Bradley would probably allow me to accept Theriot at SS and/or free up Pie or Murton for trade to improve elsewhere.

he fits Hendry's supposed desire for a LH RFer, and he provides exactly what the Cubs lack if he can stay healthy.

His attitude problems should limit his price, but I'd imagine they'll also keep him away from the Cubs. Then again, he is a switch hitter with success from both sides of the plate.

I keep forgetting he's only 29.

It does seem like he's around 34.

I am not usually one of those guys who gets caught up too much into a players character. However in Bradleys case his character does seem to get in the way of his playing. He is a heckuva player when he plays. He just is not someone that can be counted on.

I think his injury history is a much bigger roadblock than his character issues. It seems like this guy's never healthy.

He'd already be signed if I was running things. He'll be relatively cheap for the value he provides.

Get him now. Instead, Hendry will lose out on Fukudome like he lost out on Furcal and have no one else to go to.

I had no idea he was that young. I also have no idea what kind of contract he might want. He's never played a full season in his career, so maybe he wants something like a one year make good contract with incentives and a significant player option for 2009 that can be achieved with 2008 playing time. I'd love to get 4 months of Bradley, even if he's nowhere near his 2007 level.

Bradley and Fukudome would be nice.

If they get these two would the budget blow up? God, I'd love to have these two in the OF and then trade for Roberts.

I'd be perfectly happy with keeping DeRosa at 2B if they had both Fukudome and Bradley. Murton becomes the fourth OFer, if he's not traded in another deal.

If they could trade Dempster and/or Marquis (without eating a lot of the contracts), I think the money would work.

Almost any player would have blown up with the way the umpire behaved that day. It was a fluke he ended up getting hurt in the melee.

True. It would make a nice team right there with some decent mobility.

Imagine if we got Bradley and Hamilton for barely anything and they both played to their potential. That would be pretty awesome.....But there's also the chance they'd both fail miserably. That would not be awesome.

sign bradley and if he fails just pray that felix pie realizes his potential.

Exactly. Bradley doesn't really have the pull to hold out to be a starter for a big time contract. He's insurance for Pie and Fukudome, plays CF vs. LHPs. Plays LF if Soriano has another leg injury. He should be cheap enough that the Cubs can pay him and Fukudome.

unfortunately, i really don't see Hendry having any interest in Bradley whatsoever, even though it would make perfect sense.

Another glaring reason we need a new GM. Bradley had an OBP over .400 and an SLG over .500 playing in the worst hitter's park in MLB. Put this guy in the NL Central and watch him go.

He's left-handed AND can catch the ball....It would seem he's perfect for Hendry, but sadly, is not.

He was perfect for them when he was first available, what, back in 2006? How many times do we have to see the Cubs ignore someone who can so obviously help them for such relatively low cost?

Cuban....hurry.
