Who knows what "done" means to these people.

Maybe this deal has been completed but the O's want to trade Bedard first then figure out their 40 man situation:

Rosenthal

Bedard: A trade between the Orioles and Mariners is only one player away from completion, major-league sources say, but that one player could be right-hander Chris Tillman, a 19-year-old that the M's would prefer to retain.

Outfielder Adam Jones would be the centerpiece of the deal for the Orioles, and left-handed reliever George Sherrill and 17-year-old shortstop Carlos Triunfel are among the other players under discussion.

The Mariners also have inquired about A's right-hander Joe Blanton, but the A's would insist upon Jones and the Mariners might not be willing to trade their top position prospect within the division.

That's along the lines of what I was thinkin. Have you spoken to your guy since this morning, BTW?

No but I texted and was told nothing has changed. This morning, the last thing he said to me was that Hendry was upset, the first time around, when Murton, Gallagher, and Patterson's names were floating around because he said those players had not really been used in concrete terms (yet he did go on to say that the final deal will probably include two of the original names). Anyway, I don't know anything for sure but I trust him.

Bruce are we free to use your information to update the fans on the Orioles Hangout forum or do you prefer to keep the information on this site only? The reason I ask is because several of their posters claim to have inside information from the Orioles that claim that this deal is 100% done, and I wanted to see what they thought about your insight.

As everyone else said, I hope all is well with your family.

I'd prefer to keep it here. I'm in no way disrespecting what they do over there, either.

That's certainly reasonable. Unfortunately, someone has already referred them over to this site.

We have elite prospects?

We're very likely to have two prospects in the top 30 in baseball this year.

Just curious, who?

Fukudome and Vitters

Posted
Why would Fukudome be considered a prospect?

Same reason Ichiro was able to win ROY in 2001, he hasn't accumulated any MLB service time.

Posted
Doh, forgot..I'd say Fukudome is a shoe in for 2008 NL ROY.

I wouldn't go that far. Daisuke was supposed to be a shoe in for 2007.

This year it's all about JR Towles, unfortunately.

Bruce will put up better numbers than Fukudome.

Marquis???

Bruce, if you're still hanging around I'm curious as to if the Cubs are looking at anyone besides Roberts that you know of. Thanks.

They do like Jon Lieber. They feel he can pitch well in Wrigley Field. Such a move, of course, would no doubt lead to further moves with a crowded rotation.

Or Dempster I'd say.

Sounds like an internet wager to me....

Based on EqA, I will wager that Bruce will end up higher than Towles.

I didn't say that wasn't going to happen. The highest NL rookie EqA will belong to Rasmus, or Maybin. or Upton. or ....

but Rasmus will have tops, that's my guess.

I'm pretty sure he meant higher in the ROY voting.

Reports: Roberts Traded to Cubs

By: Tony Pente 1/9/2008

Orioleshangout.com has learned through several sources that the trade of All-Star second baseman Brian Roberts to the Cubs has been finalized.

The early reports indicate that Orioles will get back 22-year old right-hander pitching prospect Sean Gallagher, 25-year old left-handed starting pitcher Sean Marshall, and 24-year old shortstop Ronny Cedeno.

Update: An Orioles official has contacted the Hangout and denied this report and said "it is completely inaccurate."

More to come as it develops.....

Nah, we haven't seen that at all.

Recent development: they were wrong again.

Why are so many people acting snotty and prickish towards the Orioles' message board? Nobody is forcing you to read this thread, nor are their attempts at tracking down news doing you any kind of harm or are being done out of spite. Why talk about them so insultingly or dismissively? If it bugs some of you so much, ignore the thread until you see the title change, which it has with every significant update. Why continually post about how much this thread annoys you or how you're tired of posts not about the deal?

We'll see if Dusty plays Bruce, Ping. :D I'd go with Bruce given the ballpark too.

Upton won't have the highest rookie EqA next year - he won't be a rookie next season.

he still counts in my definition

the great american smallpark will hurt bruces eqa. left handed hitters will help minimize the eqa change due to the crawford boxes at enron for towles. towles will hit in the neighborhood of .290 with 20 HR and 15 SB if he gets 400 AB.

I don't think it's being snotty or prickish. I think the fact that if you doubt these guys you get bum-rushed with thousand word essays about they are infalliable oracles is more like what you're thinking. Your advice can work for you as well. If you don't like what I have to say about them, or the behavior of their group of followers and staunch defenders that gang up on you with an 8 post tirade, then don't read what I have to write.

Basically I've lost my patience with all the condescending lectures coming from people in here about how we should be falling at the feet of these people and their amazing knowledge.

I'm not up to date on all the rumors. I haven't even read all the posts in this topic or since I last logged on. But what I see is that now a lot of other sites were citing these guys and it looks like another "done" declaration turned out to be wrong, and I'm sure there's yet another hogwash excuse about how it doesn't really count or whatever. I don't care. Propping these guys up is not my pasttime.

I read somewhere Kaplan wrote that the Orioles were holding out for Pie, or Colvin, or Hill, someone like that. If that were true then it would seem they've been totally wrong all along.

A done deal sealed? Nothing is that easy in baseball. I think people said the same thing about Hermida too, it was a done deal. People said the same thing about Stephen Drew, I remember one prominent blogger said "Stephen Drew will be the best player in the NL West in 2007, and it's not going to be close." He could get injured. Anything could happen. Towles is definitely a frontrunner, but the game's played on the field, not on paper.
