Well looks like the orioles are dropping off their demands in a potencial deal with the reds :

Maybe this has an effect on the Roberts situation. Kaplan said last night that they want to deal Bedard first before doing anyhting with Roberts. Hopefully they do something with Bedard quickly after new years and then trade Roberts to us.

Odd how a thread can grow two pages in a half an hour to no posts in five days.

Crazy stuff can happen

I'm still waiting with baited breath to see what the "Orioles insiders" have to say...

Might be a few days until we hear. I heard from a "reliable source" that they currently are on a Carribean vacation with MacPhail and Angelos.

- The Orioles have cooled on the idea of trading Brian Roberts, but talks with the Cubs are still ongoing. The Cubs would probably have to part with Sean Gallagher, along with Eric Patterson, and at least one other prospect, maybe two. I have heard Jake Fox's name be mentioned, but nothing else beyond that .

Doesn't sound like the most reliable source in the world but you never know.

Found this rumor after scrolling through the site for 30 seconds.

- Corey Patterson is still looking for a job, and could wind up in Chicago. Both teams are looking for an outfielder, and he would probably come at a reduced price.

0% chance with the cubs, decent chance with the sox. Hes very much a KW type of guy. Although, Ozzie would eat him up.

One of the O's guys said in a update on some things that his guy didn't think there would be a Bedard/Roberts deal to the Cubs when he asked him about that possibility. I'm assuming he meant a package of that, not one or the other (I did as him, still waiting for his repsonse).

I think the guy is speculating more than anything else with Patterson here. Doesn't make any sense at all with the cubs. I think Patterson makes more sense for a team like Atlanta or the twins. The white sox make more sense than the cubs also.

I read that as well and there is some confusion as to what the guy meant but i am pretty sure he meant a deal for both of them.

1. He's fast

2. He's left handed

3. He can catch

4. He plays a position we already have covered

All the criteria that Hendry looks for. I expect a multi year deal soon.

The bolded criterion is the most important of all and the one that guarantees it gets done.

If we added Marmol and Colvin perhaps we could get Guthrie?

That would be a very poor decision IMO.

9th in AL in WHIP. < 30. Pitches in AL East.

not going to repeat it. he'll be lucky to have an era below 4.5 regardless of which division he pitches in next year. we don't need to throw away two assets to get him.

One interesting point to mention. One of the people on our favorite Orioles website mentioned this. He is not one of the 3 insiders I'm aware of, but he mentioned that he exchanged some emails, presumably with someone in the know:

There is a good likelihood one or two deals may happen in the next few days. One of the key players currently on the Orioles has requested through his agent that something gets done soon to end the drama.

Roberts?

Whether you like him or not...one team has offered a highly regarded hitter drafted in 2006 for Daniel Cabrera. I was told that deal appears unlikely because they think Cabrera still can be a very dominant pitcher if the light comes on.

Could that hitter be Tyler Colvin? Could the Cubs be trying to go after Roberts + Cabrera? Just pure speculation on my part, but it's been really slow here lately, so I want something to talk about.
