In that article Rosenthal also states:

The Cubs remain heavily interested in Roberts, and the Orioles could receive prospects such as pitcher Sean Gallagher and outfielder Felix Pie or veterans such as RHP Jason Marquis and outfielder Matt Murton.

Interesting that it says Sean Gallagher AND outfielder Felix Pie instead of Sean Gallagher OR outfielder Felix Pie. I'm sure Hendry will way overpay though.

Looks to me like he's just grouping together the prospects and veterans and not necessarily speculating as to who's going in a package together.

Per Rotoworld:

Mariners acquired LHP Erik Bedard from the Orioles for outfielder Adam Jones, LHP George Sherrill, RHP Chris Tillman, RHP Kam Mickolio and LHP Tony Butler.

Bedard is one of the best pitchers in baseball, but will turn 29 years old before Opening Day, has yet to throw 200 innings in a season and can become a free agent following the 2009 season. He'll form a fantastic one-two punch atop the Mariners' rotation alongside Felix Hernandez, but Seattle paid a huge price to acquire him and may regret the move if they aren't able to sign him to a long-term contract extension. The move to Seattle's pitcher-friendly ballpark should help Bedard and with Johan Santana gone he's now the top fantasy pitcher in the AL. Bedard's arrival knocks Horacio Ramirez out of the rotation and makes it likely that Brandon Morrow will remain in the bullpen.

It's hard to beleive that this trade finally happend after so much drama the past months..Now we'll have to wait till 2014 for Roberts to get traded

I wouldn't believe Rosenthal's stuff on the Roberts deal yet, he admittedly said that the Cubs wouldn't give up Pie on CSN like 3 days ago.

That is what I was thinking. But with the way this offfseason has gone for Rosenthal, he's become the new Peter Gammons...

Felix Pie, Will Ohman (if we didnt trade him earlier this year), Chris Huseby, and someone like Jose Ceda.

Yikes. Not even close but wouldn't that have been nice...

And to couple that with your trade idea of Mark Prior for Khalil Greene, we would have been set.

Said Trembley, "I talked to Sherrill and I said I don't want an answer from you right now. What I'd like you to consider, if your comfortable with it, I'd like you to consider stepping in the role of closer. I think he's interested in doing something like that. He's real excited about it. I think that's what he was waiting for someone to tell him. I think he'd fit nicely in that role down there, coming in after [Chad] Bradford and [Jamie] Walker with some of the guys down there."

For those wondering about that Sherill being flipped to us part awhile back.

we wouldnt have been able to trade prior for greene straight up. matt murton or felix pie would have had to be included. Ronny Cedeno as well.

I'm aware it wouldn't have worked, but wasn't that your original suggestion? Maybe you said Cedeno too...

We couldn't have matched Seattle's package either. Adam Jones is a better valued prospect than Pie, the Cubs don't have any reliever with the value of Sherrill besides Marmol (C'mon, Ohman??), and don't have anyone with the ceiling/probability of Tillman though we could have matched Butler with say a Veal or even Ceda. We don't have the equivalent. Huseby unfortunately doesn't have very much value right now and though Tillman is very young and raw himself, he does. It doesn't help when Tillman is already gracing Top 50 prospect lists...

Well I would just like to add that I just watched AM press conference about the trade and here were a few interesting points. It was asked about the possibilty of adding a veteran pitcher to help the youngsters and AM replied that yes he would be looking to add a veteran. Does this mean that somehow AM is persuading JH that he will take Marquis but only if JH picks up most of his salary?? Question was also asked about with the players they have recieved in the Tejada/Bedard deal could he swing some of these players in another trade. AM replied that with all the players that they have added he would sure hope that other teams would be interested. Just curious as I thought somebody had recently posted that they thought Sherrill would be included with Roberts. A question was asked about the possiblity of a Roberts move and AM stated that he and his staff would have to sit down and take a look but if there was a trade that would improve his club for the future he would certainly listen. Its going to be interesting to see how this plays out as the 0's are clearly in a rebuilding process and is Roberts going to want to stay. I would also have to say that in listening to AM if the Cubs want Roberts its going to cost them.....

As far as I know, Meph has always advocated a Pie + filler swap for Greene, but maybe there was another proposal he came up with.

I'm sure Roberts would cost us - but at what expense. Personally, would love to see Roberts at the top of the Cubs order - but not at the expense of losing Felix Pie, Gallagher, Marmol, or Colvin. A package that would have included Bedard/Roberts, I might change my mind since the Cubs would be a better team.

Just don't think the Cubs have many options at CF to cover the loss of Pie's sure defense/probable offense. Especially when talking about improving at a position in which the Cubs already have at least two solid options at.

Has that been said before? (sarcasm).

We're going to have to give up at least 1 of Pie, Gallagher, Marmol, or Colvin to get Roberts. They aren't going to take a bag of garbage for him. I'm all for trading Pie in a deal for Roberts and signing Lofton. In fact, I think I'd prefer Lofton anyways.

Update from Bruce Miles:

http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=131376

Contrary to popular belief, knowledgeable Cubs sources say the two teams have not gotten serious about discussing specific players the Orioles would want for Roberts.

It's highly unlikely the Cubs will trade center-field prospect Felix Pie or former top draft pick Tyler Colvin for Roberts. But a package possibly involving pitcher Sean Marshall or Sean Gallagher plus another player seems more in the ballpark.

Bruce says one thing, everyone else says another. I'd tend to side with Bruce, but I don't know. I just want to hear a trade has been made or hasn't been made.

I forgot if I had posted in this thread so I wanted to make sure I was part of history. I also want to now get some news about us and Roberts.

If everything in the above is true, I could see a deal happening (not advocating it) that looks something like:

Cubs get: Roberts, Sherrill, Payton

O's get: Marquis, Gallagher, Colvin, Cedeno

I could live with that.

Wow that would be a huge steal for us. Too bad I see the same exact trade except take Sherrill out of the deal. I would still do Gallagher, Colvin, Cedeno, and Marquis for Roberts and Payton.

Let's make it easy.....who do YOU think has more acess to what the Cubs are thinking....OH "sources", Ken Rosenthal, or Bruce Miles?

To me it's easy.....unlike OH "sources" and Rosenthal, Miles is pretty straight forward kind of journalist. I would say believe Miles, who has ties to the Cubs, over anybody else.
