He is also a fan favorite who has done a lot of work with the city. He is not going to come out and ask for a trade. The bottom line is Baltimore is holding all the cards, and can wait as long as they want.

I don't buy this "O's are holding all the cards" theory you seemed to believe. Between DeRosa/EPatt and Fontenot, I pretty sure 2B will NOT be an issue for the Cubs. If the Cubs didn't have a legit 2B on their roster or in camp, I would buy it, but considering the presence of DeRosa (specifically) and Patterson/Fontenot, I would say the Cubs have as much leverage in this deal as the O's. Which is why, I believe that while Hendry is prolly frustrated at the lack of progress in the talks, that doesn't mean he will rush into blindly.

The Orioles are holding all the cards in the same way the Royals were holding all the cards on Mike Sweeney when they kept trying to extort the Angels. I think the Angels offered Erick Aybar and Joe Saunders and the Royals kept holding out for Brandon Wood, the Royals were holding all the cards, holding all the cards... whoops! They aren't holding any cards at all. Bye bye Cards. See you later cards. Hasta la vista cards.

A Cubs fan posted this on OH earlier today. He could be making it up though. Anybody hear this?

FWIW...The Cubs Asst Gm, Randy Bush, was on Talking Baseball (ESPN 1000 in Chicago) this morning and said there was not going to be a trade. Could be posturing, could be true who knows. Bruce Levine then said the Cubs have made 7 or 8 different offers to MacPhail since December and MacPhail seems to change his mind each time on what is acceptable and whether or not he will even trade Roberts. Levine went on to say the Cubs FO is very frustrated with MacPhail's actions.

It may have come to a point where the Cubs are willing to throw in the towel (no Mark Prior pun intended) and move on.

Whether people like Pie right now or not. Now is the time to give him his chance to establish himself as an MLB center fielder. If he fails, the Cubs will be able to make a trade to fix the position. Pie is a capable defensive outfielder. If he ends up not being able to hit there are options available. I think it's time to see if all the hype can come to fruition.

I could not agree more. His minor league stats, along with his skills, deserve a longer look. I would give him until June 1.

Crisp isn't all that...Since his broken wrist at the beginning of 2006, he has hit .264 and .268 with OBP's of .317 and .330.

I just think we let the Pie dice roll...

He'll be solid and then progress to fantastic. I have confidence in Pie producing. The key is playing time and this year is the year for him to get that.

I always wanted Pie to play this year, but I definitely feel better now that I see his swing has improved. He doesn't have a real short swing that I feared when they said they wanted him to play small ball, but that big long swing has been shortened and that should help him get around on those inside fastballs that he struggled with last year.

Sometimes the best trades are the ones that are not made. The price seems why too high and we seem to be trying to outbid ourselves. Mc Phail knows that when Hendry sets his mind on acquiring a player hes willing to overpay.

Somebody really needs to slap Hendry and tell him to forget about Roberts. It's obvious the O's don't want to trade him, unless they get a ridiculously rich offer.

Meph disagrees.

The Cubs are eventually going to get Brian Roberts. Andy MacPhail has to decide whom he wants. But the Cubs are convinced it will happen.

Gammons still believes, even after he previously called that this would be done the weekend after the Bedard/Jones trade.

"It looks like Nomar won't be heading anywhere. The Cubs and Red Sox couldn't complete a deal before the deadline."

4 seconds later Nomar was a Cub.

I think nobody will accuse either sid of "rushing" at this point.

Is it just me or did it seem as though Patterson is a more than adequate defender after watching todays game. Its just one game and all, but everyone was making it sound like he was a complete hack out there.

I was thinking the same thing, except that I thought his arm didnt look particularly strong. Still, I agree that he looked better than advertised/discussed.

It's 2B, how strong does it have to be.

I just thought to add to the mother-of-all-threads, atleast it's new:

APPARENTLY, the O's are interested in Mark Loretta for 2B. The Astros have sent a scout over to watch the O's today.......so take it for what it is worth.....
