And one last update from the second insider, when asked if he was hearing the same things as the first guy:

Yes. Final deals are be worked out as we speak.

I'm assuming he meant "details" instead of "deals".

I imagine so. Along those lines, I wonder if there's money changing hands, as in Payton+cash to the Cubs.

Update:

The deal is done but Angelos won't let go of Robert's hand. Angelos keeps saying "He's like a Son to me!" Hendry's trying to negotiate visitation rights with Angelos as we speak.

Really crappy to pretty crappy, both with no real shot at post season. He would just be riding it out till FA either way. Plus Cinci would be giving up maybe Bailey and Votto in the process, I don't think that really makes them any better. Then there is the Baker factor. The bright side for him is that he would look better in the NL Central for pilling up stats before FA.

Getting Bedard would give the Reds a better rotation than the Cubs; their offense is already better, and their bullpen will definitely benefit by adding Cordero. If anything, I'd be way more concerned about the Reds than the Brewers if they pull this off.

Visitation rights?? Is this a divorce?

I wonder if Hendry has any interest in Kevin Millar for a right handed power bat off the bench. Millar still can hit the long ball, get on base at a decent clip and can play a serviceable outfield.

Well at least Angelos doesn't look at his players like a walking dollar sign and actually has some attachment to them as human beings.

Then again there's a reason the Orioles suck something fierce, so...

Bartolo Colon anyone?? He can still pitch mid 90's

I'd give him a low-base pay, incentive-laden contract without question.

I really doubt that Dempster will be in our starting rotation, despite what has been talked about.

I suppose crazier things have happened, though.

Any other pitchers on the market, either via FA or through trade that we could get at this point?

Joe Blanton was a name kicked around on the board here, but I'd wager that after trading for Roberts, further emptying of the farm system will be minimal this offseason.

Blanton? Burnett? Santana (not happening, just listing guys who are/might be available)...

anybody think orioles insiders know nsbb is obsessed with what they have to say and just screwing around?

No, they're very preoccupied with rebuilding their team. For the record, even though most of them were hoping for Pie, the majority of them seem to like the deal. I think it's a win/ win.

Dempster's not slotted to start, he's just one of the candidates for the 5th starter spot. I have to think that right now Kevin Hart has a chance to steal that spot away. Lou likes him a lot, and with a good spring I could easily see that happening. Marshall is also still in the mix, although IMO he'll have to show something to get the spot back, fair or not.

Besides, with the Cubs top 3 in the rotation and their good bullpen, they'll likely be at least a slightly above average pitching staff even if the 4 and 5 spots implode, and quite a bit better than that if at least one of them turns out to be average (like both of them did last year).

Possibly. I also find it a bit amusing that people keep referring to them as "the insiders."
