According to Oriole "insiders," the steroid stuff is unlikely to have affected the trade negotiations.

I should restate that. There's some belief (among those insiders and O's fans in general) that they are waiting to announce a deal until the steroid stuff cools off a bit, so that it doesn't "look" like they're just shipping him off because of it.

 

That said, Hendry's interest in Roberts apparently hasn't cooled one bit due to any of this.

What does he hear that the exact deal is?

If Angelos is in fact blocking this deal then i believe is pointless for AM to be there. The orioles simply aren't going anywhere if Angelos continues acting like this. That team needs to be completely rebuild. I personally feel that the rumor package of Murton Patterson and Gallagher is more than enough for Roberts.

 

If you are the Orioles, would you still feel convinced that Murton, Patterson and Gallagher is enough for Roberts? I don't think I would be happy with that package.

 

Realistically, they can rebuild with Roberts just as easily as they can rebuild without him. In other words, without a blue chip prospect being offered in return, I'm not so sure I'd be satisfied with that package.

 

The Orioles already have the corner outfield spots covered with Markakis and Luke Scott. I suppose Murton can platoon with Scott to get full value out of that corner OF spot, but essentially they are getting a little used corner outfielder in Murton. Patterson has a shot of starting in CF, but he's a relative unknown AND is still fairly new to the position. Gallagher is obviously the best player in this package considering just about every team is looking for pitching, but he also isn't a top prospect and doesn't have much experience at the major league level.

 

I agree the team needs to rebuild, but if I was Angelos, I'd have some concern about the return value on parting with a quality 2b.

Its being reported by one of the insiders on OH that Angelos has signed off and the deal is very close.. I don't know all the insiders over there but they seem to believe him. Take it for what it is worth.

Gallagher, Murton and Patterson for Roberts. The Cubs probably had to wait until Fukudome passed the physical. I can not see them announcing a deal today, because this is Fukudome's day in the sun.

 

Hopefully, it will be announced tomorrow, otherwise I bet it would wait until after the holiday.

 

I like the deal, now lets go get a top of the order pitcher!!

Yeah, Roberts may not be much better than DeRosa, but now DeRosa can be allowed to play multiple positions and still get 300+ at bats. Also, this move probably pushes Soriano out of the leadoff spot, giving us a better lineup. We are giving up a bit, but we aren't exactly selling the farm for him, and Pie and Hill aren't being included. Edited December 19, 2007 by Post Count Padder

Oh, I agree 100% with you. I just don't know if the Cubs came to me asking for Roberts with a package what that package would be. I would rather trade Gallagher and Murton in some package to get Bedard, or hell even Santana (+ a whole lot more).
