This is 5-10 million higher than what was originally report, isn't it? If so, can we really trust Sullivan that the payroll will be above the $115 million range I thought was previously reported?

Maybe we can get a real shortstop for the second time in how many years? Ernie Banks last season as a SS?

:-k Hmm...I wonder who is available?

haha this pretty much shows our confidence in hendry, instead of saying "hey this gives us a lot of money to spend on a real impact player" everyone just assumes that he'll blow it on mediocre talent and saddle the organization with more lousy long-term contracts

Not only that, try thinking of the last good CF the Cubs have had.

Brian McRae was alright

The last good one was probably Rick Monday in the mid 70s iirc.

using BR Adolfo Phillips was good for a year before Monday. Then you got Richie Ashburn. Man it's dry

Umm, what about Jeff Blauser?! He absolutely destroyed the Cubs.

this only means we can overpay for even more mediocre players

the extra boost is only going to make the blanco, eyre, etc. contracts hurt more when the cubs are $5 mil short in getting arod instead of $20 mil.

How about Bob Denier? He was alright in CF.

Lofton played pretty decently in CF during the time that we had him.

Yeah, 2003 was one of the only good years for the Cubs in CF. Patterson had an 831 OPS in CF in 325 AB's, and Lofton had an 858 in 203 AB's. Even with bench guys composing another 125 AB's or so, they still finished with a .302/.344/.466 line overall in CF, which is probably one of the only times they have broken .800 in CF in a long, long time.

He did alright before he got to Chicago too.
