Why is it that really dumb / bizarre things like this seem to happen to finely tuned professional athletes all the time?

I have moved stuff in my house without have shoulder damage. I have walked around my house with no lights on and never tripped over a Playstation wire or tripped over my dog and torn up a knee or shoulder. (slides under desk as lightning will strike any second) I have never been washing a vehicle and slipped of it injuring myself. (oh wait neither has Jeff Kent)

I'm not trying to be a tool here, but it just seems odd that these types of "accidents" happen all the time.

Am I way off here, or does anyone else feel the same way?

Cause when you "get drunk and hurt yourself", you "get drunk and hurt yourself."

I've slipped off the back of a Uhaul with a desk in my hands and landed on one foot and didn't get hurt....nor the desk ever touch the ground.

Sucks for Zumaya.

Rotoworld gets a Guitar Hero comment in there too...

Joel Zumaya-R- Tigers Nov. 1 - 3:07 pm et

Joel Zumaya underwent shoulder surgery Wednesday after getting hurt moving personal items during the California wildfires.

And with Guitar Hero III coming out, it's a double whammy. Zumaya will rest his shoulder for the next six weeks following his AC joint reconstuction. The good news is that it wasn't his labrum or rotator cuff damaged. Still, he's not going to resume throwing for four months, making it unlikely that he'll be back before June. The Tigers were considering turning closing duties over to Zumaya to begin next season. Now they'll have added incentive to re-sign Todd Jones or replace him with someone similar.

On a side note GHIII is amazing. The day it came out, I played it until my hand couldn't move anymore.

It's amazing how many Rivals we have.

I wonder what the real reason was for the injury. I'm guessing alcohol was involved.

I don't think this belongs in Rivalries (it would have if NSBB existed back in 1907, 1908, 1935, or 1945). Off to Baseball Discussions.

cubs rivals = nl central teams; white sox

maybe the marlins too if you're really stretching.

Mets for those of you who weren't -14 in 1969.

Sadly, the realignment has all but killed that once incredibly heated rivalry. It was close to Cubs/Cards levels at one time.

aye, I hated the Mets much more than the Cards growing up

Me too. Still do. Probably always will.

Me too and it wasn't even close to any other team. Not being from Chicago I never realized there was a rivalry between the Cubs/Cards and never understood the Brock trade thing until I found out how these two groups of fans felt.

Take away the SD playoffs debacle, and 1984 Cubs was probably the most incredible I've felt as a sports fan. The games we played against the Mets that year were just amazing. I don't remember how many bench-clearing brawls there were, but I think 3 or 4 over the course of the season.

Amazing. And they had the division lead that year, and we took it away. It was '69 revenge, just soooo sweet.

It's too bad we couldn't close the deal in the playoffs.

I thought I was the only one who hated the Mets more as a kid. I didn't hate the Cards til Larussa.

Yeah, they went from a pretty crappy team for most of my life to a good team right at the same time the Cubs did, but they stayed good and were great for a while plus they actually got to win a championship. They were definitely my most hated rival. The Cards were pretty mediocre most of the time and didn't really matter to me.

If not for the choke job against the Padres in the NLCS the rivalry would have been renewed in 1984. Had that happened the Cubs vs. Tigers probably would have been a real rivalry, since that would have been the fifth Cubs vs. Tigers Series.
