I already thought Tenn might be my championship pick but I really think it's looking likely now.

I don't think so and I really like Tennessee. With them and Butler I at least have two teams to pull for in the tournament.

Memphis is a good matchup for them. Their defense is just so reliant on forcing turnovers (although not tonight). It depends on the bracket but if they play a good team that takes care of the ball and has an interior threat, I think they're in trouble. I wouldn't like their chances against UCLA or Kansas.

UCLA worries me a little bit - I watched a little today and it seemed like a team with a really good big man would be able to stop Kevin Love. But you make a good point.

Part of me thinks that ND would be a really good dark horse pick for somebody (inside and outside scoring, can shoot the 3 but don't necessarily rely on it, tremendous point guard play, free-flowing offense with few turnovers), but even if I wanted to I could never pick ND to go to the Final Four. I'd feel like I was jinxing them.

hahahahahahahahahahhahaha.

You and I could beat Kansas. We shouldn't be any higher than a 3 seed. Awful.

Wow, if you and hawkeye could be Kansas, that shows how bad Missouri actually is.

Shoulda called a foul on Indiana on the missed layup with 5 seconds.

Kudos to DJ White on the crazy celebration...for beating Northwestern. A team that hasn't won a conference game in over a year.

DJ can celebrate all he wants. He has been through a lot in his career at IU...the Mike Davis era, multiple injuries, the Sampson fiasco...he finally has a chance to play for a Big Ten title.

...the petulant ducking out on practice yesterday.

Yeah... okay. I'd love to see your reaction in the same situation.

The Indy Star[/url]"]

In his postgame remarks, Dakich said he completely understood what his players went through Friday afternoon; he thought it was what any 18- to 22-year-old kids would go through in a similar situation.

"I thought it was natural,'' Dakich said. "It wasn't like a boycott. They got told at 11:45 (Friday morning) about coach Sampson. Now to ask them to go to practice, well, some do and some don't. These guys are 18-to-22. I was having a hard time with it and I've been through some of this before.''

Dakich said the players started sending him text messages at around 6 p.m., informing him that they would all be there for the 9 p.m. walk-through. Eventually, he heard from everyone -- including White.

"What people need to realize is that D.J.'s issue (Friday) was far deeper than just missing our practice,'' Dakich said. "This was the second time D.J. had been through something like this. It was just very, very difficult. I thought he handled everything really well.''

Fraught with irony, this emoticon is.

Come on, all this crying and feeling sorry for the players is over the top. Its not like these players had been recruited by Sampson for a long time, and formed a real close bond to him. Hell if I was the players Id be pissed off and telling him to kiss my ass. If im the players Im thinking, "you get caught once, and get in trouble, but yet you still dont stop and now you are embarrassing the hell out of us and this school?' Take a hike. But I guess thats just me

Sampson recruited all but one of these players. And yes, many do see him as a father figure. It's obvious from everything that has happened over the last couple days that the players were very, very close to Sampson. They probably shouldn't have been, but that doesn't change the reality of the situation.

Hes been there 2 years, like I said its not like he recruited these kids from the time they were freshman. And I still say if I were the players Id be more pissed at him for causing embarrassment to themselves and the University, instead of feeling sad for their scum of a coach.

Keener, you look at the whole situation as Sampson is a cheater, liar, scum, etc., which I agree is mostly likely the case. And I can't speak for any of the IU players, but I can bet they feel like, "hey, it's just phone calls". The fact that the NCAA has called these "major" violations is a joke. It's still just a handful of phonecalls, that Sampson may or may not have had 100% knowledge of wrongdoing. I'm sure you'll take exception to the last couple sentences, but the only reason these violations are newsworthy is because of prior violations by Sampson. As far as the IU players are concerned, I bet they think he could have done a lot worse. No current Hoosiers are in danger of being ineligible. This season and the talent on the team is not tainted. Bottom line is you aren't gonna tell a team that has spent so much time with Sampson and came to IU because of his presence (other than DJ White, who stayed because of Sampson) that he is a bad person because of the current allegations.

If you're basing your Love opinion on just yesterday's game, just know that Kevin had the flu yesterday. Hopefully he isn't sick when UCLA plays teams in the tourney. (That's not to say he doesn't have his weaknesses - just look at the USC games - but he has done really well against some of the best big men in the conference.)

Penn State comes out on fire, opens a 13 point lead, starts throwing the ball all over the arena, only up by 2 at the break, and now trailing by 9. typical

Do you think he has attitude issues or is that just the haters making stuff up and me buying into it without really seeing a legit sample size of his play?

I don't think he has an attitude issue, his teammates and coaches clearly love him and he almost always says the right things to the media. He definitely looked frustrated yesterday though, especially in the first half.

OJ Mayo is also getting a bad rap about attitude from everyone and I don't think he deserves it either.

I can pretty much guarantee every player is thinking that. A lot were probably promised all kinds of things during recruitment, so phone calls don't register. I didn't want Sampson hired because of those phone calls, and I wanted him dismissed because of the same. But, again, it was phone calls. Not paying players, not academic fraud, not point shaving. Phone calls. Sampson deserved his fate, but the players have every right to be frustrated by the situation.

And in my opinion they should be frustrated at Sampson for not following rules, not the administration for punishing Sampson.

I agree. It was Sampson that chose not to follow the rules. It's his fault. The administration may be a convenient scapegoat, but it's on the coach. I'm sure in time, the players will come to understand that (though some may never accept it; people don't always like to hear the truth).

The players, however, are in the middle of the most successful season IU has had since 1993 and lost their coach over phone calls. It's not surprising that 18-22 year-olds acted rashly and emotionally. In the end, a few players missed one practice. They showed up to a walk-through mere hours later and played hard in a game the following day. It was a difficult situation that six players didn't handle well -- but did redeem themselves the same day.
