Anyway I'll believe it's going to be big when I see the actual names.

Depending who's named on this list and who knew what this might bode well for the Cubs having a guy like Cuban in baseball will be some nice postive press 4 them.

i think this is dumb. baseball isn't going to clean up baseball by informing us of who cheated in the past. they need to install testing programs to catch cheaters in the present and future.

MITCHELL: Hey, guess who was on roids?

US: Who?

MITCHELL: Bret Boone and Luis Gonzalez back in 2001!

US: No *** Sherlock

Pretty much. I'll wait and see who's on that list when it comes out but most of the players are one's we'd expect.

and what's the point of naming names? i'm willing to bet that many of the names are guys who aren't even playing anymore, so why publicly nail them to a cross for past indiscretions? if anything, the Mitchell Commission should be investigating why Selig and Fehr so willingly turned a blind eye to what was obviously a rampant problem through the 90's. naming names pretty much removes culpability from those who had the power to fix the problem while putting too much blame on the players who, while doing something I disagree with, were basically taking advantage of the situation that was presented to them.

i'd really hate to get into situation where we're erasing records and taking back championships and all that BS due to this. Clean up the future, don't dwell on the past

I'm on the "whats the point" side, mostly because I'm pretty sure everyone took steroids.

Everyone.

Just assume this and you can get on with your life.

I really hope that two of the names on the list are Cal Ripken, Jr. and Tony Gwynn. Not that I dislike those guys, but if those two were on the juice, then yeah, pretty much everyone was

Your innocence will be soon be lost Sosa

What innocence? Everyone in the media already declared him guilty without trial. He could not appear on this list, and they'll just say it's proof that there are more names out there. Nobody will be satisfied that steroid testing is working until their own personal target is caught.

Very true.

And, it's just more to the point that it's silly to call a player out for doing something which was obviously so widespread and unenforced. I don't think it's necessarily all that important for someone to acknowledge that Sammy Sosa probably took steroids/PED's, but I do, and I'll tell you what, It doesn't minimize his on-field accomplishments in any way. I couldn't care less. It is what it is.

It'd be like hating on some deadball-era pitcher for accumulating all those wins in a single-season.

But its not the pitcher that chose to pitch in the deadball-era. If these players too steroids, it is because they knowingly took an illegal drug in order to boost their performance above all previous players in history that did not take steroids.

By that same logic, these players didn't 'choose' to hit in the steroid era. And they weren't trying to boost their performance 'above all previous players in history who did not take steroids', they tried to boost their performance above the field of competition in front of them who were also taking steroids. And you really think dead-ball era pitchers were rule-abiding citizens? Those guys had more tricks up their sleeve than David Blaine wandering around Times Square.

Tom Gordon's cousin....that's great.

Yes, the who's who of A ball and 47 year old guys who haven't got a shot in heck of playing MLB again.

Which brings me to another point. Why do you come out and say "we're gonna name names in about 2 weeks, everyone get ready!!"?

Why not just....you know, come out and name the damn names?

Could it be that someone is, well, "willing to discuss" not naming a particular name......for a price, perhaps?

Yes, I know.....paranoid conspiracy theorist. Just makes me wonder though.

I think it may be because of the World Series. The timing of this would be terrible. Did the McCarthy era really effect you that much?

again, i think naming names is going to damn the league an union more than the players. the only way they can name names is if a) the player(s) fessed up to Mitchell, b) they have records of positive test results from the playing days of the player(s) and/or c) they have testimony from those who provided the drugs (which seems to be the least reliable).

If there are test results, that's a huge problem for the league, as it would come to light that positive tests for steroids were ignored.

I think more than likely there are some significant names on the list, however, I highly doubt that it will become public knowledge. To add another conspiracy, I think that Mitchell holding the list of names will use it as leverage over Fehr and the players union to have more stringent drug testing (i.e. blood testing) and more significant penalties for those who get caught. Thus no major names are outed, congress will be appeased, and MLB will come out without too much damage being done.
