Ok, so our offense has totally sucked the first 2 games. Now we're at home. More comfortable. Friendly crowd.

How do the Cubs hitters get out of this slump? Do they have a team meeting and together come to a concensus to be more patient at the plate OR do they simply play their game believing they can win at home.

Seriously, it's one thing to lose two games but play fairly well. The Cubs, though, have been horendous. Do you change the lineup? Does Lou give some sort of speech. How do they get out of this? Or is it even possible?

For what it's worth, I think we can win the next 2

I hope their approach is to take a deep breath, relax, and have some fun out there. I think any of those other things you suggest (meetings, etc.) could only lead to more stress and pressure.

I don't know. I'm just gonna watch and see what happens. They'll probably play even tighter in front of the home crowd for all I know.

I doubt this club changes its stripes and stops swinging at junk though. I can easily tell you what the DBacks' pitching approach will be. Just throw crap, let the Cubs beat themselves.

Heck, maybe Lou just needs to tell them it's only a game and not the end of the world if they lose. Tell 'em to just go out and have fun.

Easy....Stop swinging for the fences on every pitch. What was so disappointing was to see the Cubs hitters with seemingly no approach or strategy at the plate while the D-Backs rooks showing poise and confidence. And then there's Augie.....D'oh!

Yeah, that's what makes this so hard. This is a veteran team that looks like little leaguers outmatched by a better little league club.

I think Soto needs to sit them all down and have them watch his ABs and tell them what hes thinking.

"You see that pitch right there? It did not appear as though it was going to cross the white hexagonal rubber thing in front of me inbetween my knees and my letters so I did not swing. Thats allowed in this game"

"See, look at that, that happened 4 times in that plate appearance, and I was awarded first bases. Sori, see how I'm jogging gingerly down there, I know your quad is hurting, if you do this you don't even have to run!"

Sori replies "But, but, but, I thought that if the pitch is at your eyes you have to swing?!?!"

Soto rewinds the tape...

Soto donkey punches Sori to the floor-suddenly it makes sense to team........

I don't know what the approach is going to be in Game 3, but here's what I do know. We can still win this. Coming back from down two games seems like a tough task. But I don't think it's too tough. Essentially all we're looking at is sweeping a three game series. This team is absolutely capable of doing that. We've seen all year that this team gets on cold streaks (like the last two games) and also hot streaks (like going 13-7 down the stretch). I still maintain that we're the better team. We can do this. We just need the players to play like they should. That's not an unreasonable request at all. Let's hope that this team starts playing like they did a couple weeks ago. Keep the faith. It's not over yet.

Just win the next game in front of you. You win you keep playing. Trying to think of it as three in a row can add more pressure. We can't get all three at once. Although it is the same thing with making up 5 or 6 runs and this team still swings for the 7 run homer.

its not unreasonable. unfortunatly, it also is reasonable to see the cubs continue this cold streak for 1 more game. then, well, see my previous post in this thread.

I agree. I'll be rooting for them on Saturday (while holding my breath).

On the opposite side of things.. How amazing would it be if the Cubs managed to win this series after being down 2-0...

It would be like a very poor man's version of what the BoSox did in 2004, seeing as how they did it in a 7 game series (for the first time ever), against their chief rival, and went on to win the World Series...

hoenstly, my worse case scenerio would be my best case scenerio at this point, and it would be winning this series, going down 3-0 in the NLCS, winning that series, going down 3-0 and winning the WS. i think my heart would explode.

The key to Hernandez is working the count, while he is a workhouse as far as game started, his velo and ability to remain effective after the 4th. They're going to have to make him so they're thru the order by the 3rd, so the heart of the order can get to him a 2nd time thru and hopefully over 60 pitches in the 4th.

Combined with the drop in velo, he also loses the break on his curve.

While I certainly don't advocate the crap hitting strategy the Cubs have been using; the Cubs would have had about eleventy-six bombs if they were playing at Wrigley the last 2 games. Lot of balls hit right at people also.

I just don't think you're going to see a change in approach at this point, so what the hell, swing away idiots, and pray for the best.
