ok, ok, i appreciate the whole "relax" mentality, i really do...

but, are you seriously going to be able to "relax" if they lose today and the brewers win tonight because that means that the cubs only have a 1 game lead with 3 left to play...plus they are playing like dog drip right now

I would obviously not be as comfortable as I am now, but I wouldn't be even close to thinking it's over or that the Cubs were gonna blow it.

The Reds we'e facing are without Dunn and Griffey, and Harang might even miss his start. The Brewers are facing a Padres team (admittedly also battling some injuries) fighting for their playoff lives. If the Cubs couldn't manage to, at least, win the same amount of games as Milwaukee in that scenario, they wouldn't deserve it anyway.

The way I look at it is that, after this game, the Crew is going to be only one and a half games back. When we lose two of three to Cincinnati, the Brewers can win the division outright simply by taking 3 of 4 and they can force a playin game by spliting, which they almost certainly will do.

If the Cubs lose this game and 2 of three to the Reds, The Brewers would have to go 4-0 to win outright. Milwaukee going 3-1 would force a 1-game playoff and 2-2 would give the Cubs the division.

Logically, that makes a lot of sense.

Of course, logic would also tell you the Cubs wouldn't get swept by the worst team in the National League with the division on the line.

You're right. But it's not that absurd, given the amount of luck involved in baseball (first game), combined with the fact that the Cubs, with their aggressive nature, just tend to struggle against bad pitchers, especially bad control pitchers, and the fact we pitched Marquis and Trachsel against a pretty good offense, and I'll just say...while it shouldn't happen, I can believe it will/did.

I can't believe Trachsel has gotten out 6 Marlins in a row. Unpossible.

Pat just said nine in a row - did the marlins do all their second inning damage with none out?

Why are they bunting when they've been getting hits off Trachsel

"Trachsel's found it"

They are trying to allow the Cubs to get back in the game.

Which is a flawed strategy, because they can't score our runs for us.

8 pitches that inning. Thanks, rejects.

Trax one ups him.

that 8 pitch inning is purely on Monroe. making a pitch on the first out means the second pitcher basically has to take a pitch. any lazy strike will put a hitter in the hole.

I know nobody is going to calm down, and I know it's not going to help, but I wish people would relax.

The Brewers coming back to win this division at this point is pretty statistically improbable.

People seem to consider it extremely realistic because in their mind they are, for whatever reason, expecting the Brewers to win every game and the Cubs to lose every game.

Sorry, but it's absurd to tell fans to calm down when their team is playing like crap at the end of the race. You are way off on your claim about the fear. MIL doesn't have to win every game and the Cubs don't have to lose every game. If they lose today, and MIL wins, all they need to do is play one game worse over the weekend, and they will have to play a play-in game, which the Cubs won't have anybody good to start, and they will screw up their chances in the playoffs anyway if they give the ball to Zambrano. The only reason not to worry is if you think it's next to impossible for the Cubs to lose this game and 2 of 3 to Cincy, and for MIL to take 3 of 4 against SD at home.

Yeah, the Marlins in the second had:

Olivo singles

De Aza doubles, Olivo scores

Olsen sac bunt, De Aza to third, 1 down

Ramirez sac fly, De Aza scores, 2 down

Uggla grounds out., 3 down

 I understood you, but it took a second

Um...anyone know where the team that played last weekend went?

I guarantee you the off day caused them to think too much about collapsing and now they are playing very tight.

Plus our starting pitching has been terrible.
