It's a crime that Hanley Ramirez has no shot at this award because he should win in a walk.

I'd probably vote for David Wright amongst the guys that actually have a chance to win.

I think Fielder would have been the choice had the Brewers come in 1st. If the Phillies catch the Mets I bet Howard wins it again, he has just been huge down the stretch. If the Mets hold them off I could see Wright winning it.

No way anyone is more valuable to a contending team than Prince Fielder. It just depends how much the Brewers not making the playoffs hurts him. If not him, then it's David Wright.

Seriously, Ramirez. I could swear I looked at his numbers earlier this year and seen that his homers were way down from a year ago, but I'm clearly misremembering something, since he's got a chance at 30.

Matt Holliday

The only problem is he's not that great of a hitter on the road, though and his stats are affected by playing in Coors.

Home: .374/.433/.726/.1159

Road: .298/.366/.488/.854

Don't get me wrong, he's still a very good hitter, but Coors definitely has an affect on that.

I fail to understand why Aramis gets no consideration. But anyway:

1) Fielder

2) Wright

3) A. Ramirez

Aramis doesn't have quite as good of numbers as some of the MVP candidates. He still would be considered except he doesn't have the plate appearances because he has missed so many games.

For example, for the 3 guys you mentioned, Fielder and Wright have around 100 plate appearances more than Aramis. To win MVP and play in only around 130 games like Aramis is going to do, you have to have easily better numbers than anybody else. Aramis simply doesn't have that.

While I think Holliday will likely win the MVP - and deservedly so - I think that Jimmy Rollins will get some significant votes. He's having an excellent season, leading the NL in runs, 2nd in hits, 37/43 in SBs, 1 shy of 30 HR, and 90 RBI out of the leadoff spot, and will K less than 100 times. Granted, he benefits from playing in a stacked lineup, but I think if Philly gets into the playoffs he's got to ge some consideration.

I think the top 5 will go something like:

Holliday

Rollins

H. Ramirez

Fielder

Wright

Some people forget that the MVP is the guy who is most valuable to his team, not the best all around player, which is why I'll never understand Andre Dawson winning it in '89. If he wasnt there, would the Cubs have finished worse than last place?

This is why I have to give it to Prince Fielder. Hes the difference between the Brewers being a 2nd place team and a 4th or 5th place team.

Close between Holliday and Fielder. The bugaboo is that the leading playoff teams right now don't seem to have the best players. Throws a wrench into the works a little bit.

I think Holliday's go the edge in some hitting categories. Fielder's terrible in the field too, how.......ironic :)

I'll go Holliday, but I think Fielder's the hotter story. I'm torn on it.

I know who MY MVP is....Aramis Ramirez. Kid has come through so big time these past few weeks. Love the Ram.

If not for an injury I would have said Chase Utley.

same here.

As it is, nobody on any of the contending teams has overwhelmingly good numbers, like Howard and Pujols last year. When that's the case I'll just pick the best overall player, and that's been Hanley.

yeah with no injury Utley seems the obvious choice.

Holliday isn't even in the running for me since he's only barely above average outside of Coors. I like him but he's a product of that park, its like making Bichette the MVP.

Geovany Soto

YES, I was scared I was going to come into this thread and nobody was going to go with the obvious choice.
