Why bother with the uniform and name change when your going to move in the near future anyways?

I haven't heard about this. Are there any links? Any cities which seem the most likely?

I agree they need to get the hell out of Tampa, though. They'll never even sniff .500 in that place.

Or in the AL East.

It's a beautiful day in Florida... Perfect for a baseball game... TOO BAD ITS INDOORS!

I know this is way off and unlikely, but I want no part of any WS07 logo if the Cubs freeze hell over and win. I don't like that new development in uniforms.

Why ditch the devil off the name? Doesn't make any sense to me.

It's a religious thing, much in the same vein of the people that have protested Arizona State and Duke to drop the "Devil" from their team nicknames.

wow, terrible unis and logos

here's a gem from that page:

Scott Boras, the agent for Rays' 1B Carlos Pena, has openly discussed who the Rays have gotten $15 million dollars worth of value, out of a $1 million dollar contract with Pena. He went on to compare Pena to David Ortiz, and also said

that he was :the best player to ever suit up in a Devil Ray uniform."

I wonder what the likes of Wade Boggs, Fred McGriff, and Carl Crawford think about that.

they're probably thinking that Carlos Pena is having a much better season in a Rays uniform than any of them ever did

That's classic, Boras is so good at his job and I love the posturing.

Imagine an infield with Boggs at 3rd and McGriff at 1st when they are 40? That's what those poor fans had to go through.

This is pathetic. Those uniforms look like the Royals home unis from the back and side. I actually kinda liked the old Rays uniforms. Do they think this is going to change their losing culture or are they just trying to hide the losing by looking hideous. No road greys? WTH?

Yes, and please no repeating what the White Sox did and having a graphic about the championship in every spot of every WGN telecast during the following year.

Doesn't that seem a little.... creepy to anyone else? There's nothing wrong with the word "devil" especially when describing a breed of ray. You'd think they were the Tampa Bay Satanists or something.

The Minnesota Timberwolves dropped the "Timber" off their name too. I imagine it's just easier to market shorter names. The Diamondbacks shortened it to D-Backs on most marketing material.

clearwater/st. pete is my hometown

i actually really like the new uniforms...they are nice...

the team really isn't going to be moving any time soon, and they are actually going to start winning and....oh my gosh....yes...they will be over .500 soon...

please guys, i read a lot of intelligent baseball discussion and analysis on this board, how you sit back and say they will never be .500 with the team that is out there right now...they are a very few offensive pieces away from being nasty...and then they just need a couple of pitchers and a lot of bullpen arms...

but that can be done over the next couple of years...3 years from now this team is going to be nasty...

but the best news is that i was interviewing a guy who works there the other day for a school assignment and i found out that the cubbies are heading to st. pete next season...

i am pumped!

I've been hearing this for 10 years now. They still have to collide with the Yanks & BoSox all year long, every year.

Maybe it's different now. I'm just saying.

This has always been my favorite Devil Rays concept. Someone over at Sportslogos.net made it. I think that the hat logo could become a classic, like the interlocking Yankees NY or the Boston B.

Or still having a giant sign outside your stadium saying "Home of the 2005 World Champions" to this day.

Even my friends think it's stupid.

even if the rays do improve there's still the problem of being in the same division as the red sox and yankees.

Yeah, it'll be tough but with the amount of talent they now have in the high minors and the big leagues, they should at least be able to contend by 2010.

Yeah, those are really cool

The ones they chose for next year, however....God they're hideous, and i'm pretty sure I could have made them if you gave me about 10 minutes.

Also, I know this is a few pages back, but count me in as someone who would like to see the Blue uni's back. I like them so much better than the road grey's

In this case, it is a religious thing. The new ownership, as they've hinted at, was never comfortable with the word "Devil" being a part of their franchise. And yes, it's creepy.

The Cubs, as usual, make no changes. :D

as long as they don't reintroduce the blue alternates next year, i'll be happy

I loved those! I know I'm in the minority but I wouldn't be sad to see those come back at all.

I'm fine with them as long as they're only on designated days, rather than pitcher's choice that ended up being more often than not.

and if they completely redesigned them so as to not make them look hideous

Anyone remember when Russ Johnson was their utilityman a few years back and he tried pushing the team to remove the "Devil" from the name?
