baseballprospectus' page said we LOST ground last night after we won and Milwuakee won as well. How the hell do they figure that? We kept our lead, and the Brewers are running out of games to make up the lead.

Strange.

Still seems off because of the running out of another game, but, the Cubs beat a bottom feeder team, as they should have and the Brewers beat a better team that they were predicted to lose against.

that's correct, and there's a longer explanation here

Sorry, but with the lead and winning just plain improves your chances. The explanation is nonsense.

Cubs go/Brewers Need to Tie/Win

0-7 3-5/4-4

1-6 4-4/5-3

2-5 5-3/6-2

3-4 6-2/7-1

4-3 7-1/8-0

5-2 8-0/X

6-1 X/X

7-0 X/X

Updated ^^

4-3 the rest of the way and it would take a miracle by the Brewers (7 of 8) just to tie.

You're not understanding the methodology. Hypothetically speaking the Brewers won a game that was considered a near lock for a loss and was dragging down their chances of winning, we won a game we were considered a near lock for a win and was boosting our probability. We did our part, but the Brewers won a game they were considered a loss in thus their numbers improve.

And now

0-7/3-5/4-4

1-6/4-4/5-3

2-5/5-3/6-2

3-4/6-2/7-1

4-3/7-1/8-0

5-2/8-0/X

6-1/X/X

7-0/X/X

Seriously thinking its gonna be one of these 2 scenarios (at least for the Cubs [4-3 or 5-2 over last 7]... but I would definitely not hate it if the Cubs went 6-1 or 7-0 in last 7. Or at least whatever and 0 until they clinch the Central.

LOL... we could go just 2-5 the rest of the way, and they'd still have to play .750 ball to beat us.

Gotta love small sample sizes.

I think if the Cubs can go 4-3, that would be the nail in the coffin. 3-4 might still get it done, but 4-3 and we're in.

Really going out on a limb there.

And should the Cubs get close to clinching anything this season, a division or more; anyone who begins to count down outs on the board should be banned till the end of the game with the post being deleted within 60 seconds.

What a life it is being a Cubs fan.

I feel sorry for my 1 year old neice who i'm turning into a Cubs fan.

Does that qualify as child abuse?

fear not. My daugter is 7 mns old and LOVES to sit on my lap and watch Cub games. It MUST be dun.

Argument is moot, now. I full expect the Brewer's playoff chances to drop down below 15% now. They are fairly boned.

I think we are heating up at the right time, so I am guessing we go 6-2 in our final 8 games. This would make it impossible for the Brewers to beat us without the one-game playoff, and to get to the one-game playoff they would have to go 8-1.

Point is, I think we have this locked up.

Now, it is 5-2 and 8-0 (to tie). I am sticking by my prediction.

Let's just hope against all hope that we can win tomorrow and the Crew loses once again...then the picture looks like this.... :)

0-6/4-3/5-2

1-5/5-2/6-1

2-4/6-1/7-0

3-3/7-0/xxxxx

4-2 or better clinches it

My projections: Cubs win, Brewers lose on Sunday, then Brewers beat St. Louis while the Cubs are off Monday. 3 game lead with 6 games remaining for both teams. Tuesday through Thursday, Cubs win 2 of 3 from Florida and Brewers win 2 of remaining 3 (3 of 4 total) from St. Louis. Tie clinched. Friday Cubs beat Cincinnati and break out the bubbly, then play forfeit lineups Saturday and Sunday to rest players for postseason.

Just so long as we're clinched before Saturday, its all good.

As much fun as all that sounds, it is just as likely the the Cubs get shut down today by Gorzelanny while the Brewers light up Reyes then win tomorrow against the Pujols-less Cardinals. Now it is 1 game up with 6 to play and not so much of a sure thing.

Cubs really need to complete the sweep today to keep the pressure on.

I feel comfortable with the Wainwright vs. Bush matchup on Monday

I think the Braves have just as good a chance to light up Crapuano and the Brewers have to light up Reyes.
