hey does anyone have nhl center ice? comcast doesn't have a price for it on their website; i'm just wondering about how much it runs. I also have to find out if they've changed the idiotic local broadcast rules (when the pens and flyers are playing at the same time, CSN philly gets blacked out - like i'm gonna sit there and watch the friggin pens)

Lapointe is talking up Toews's leadership skills and worthiness as a captain. I'm really getting excited about the potential of these young guys, even if the most likely outcome is that they'll all stink and/or be bothered with injuries that limit their ability.

Toews is a beast, seen him play a few times and he is definitley gonna be a good one.

I'm surprised that the NHL doesn't start the season with the original 6 all playing the opening games.

Detroit vs Chicago

NY vs Boston

Montreal vs Toronto

And then a full schedule after that.

Because Bettman is a dip. The schedule is so screwed up I think the Wings only played NY, Boston, Montreal and Toronto 1 time a piece last year. Yet they played the Columbus Blue Jackets 8 times.

Yeah, I'd like to see the Wings come to Ottawa a couple of times a year. Every time they go there it's always the worst time for me.

I was hoping there was a hockey thread. Had to search to find it though. Watching 3 hockey games at once with Center Ice is fun. Will be even better when my WILD play the blackhawks tomorrow at the X in St. Paul.

I don't get why they started the main slate during MLB playoffs opening night. Why not make a big deal of starting Tuesday, when no other sports are one. Promote the crap out of it. Have every team play. Do something.

Well, anyway, I'm glad to watch the Center Ice free preview, although I don't see myself buying it unless the Hawks are solid by midseason. I watched some hockey between the Boston and Cubs games. Heard Montreal in French. Saw a sloppy shootout.

Normally I'd rather see a team bottom out than finish somewhere like 10th or 11th in the conference and draft 10th-12th overall. But with all the losing, I think I'd actually prefer just missing the playoffs than seeing them draft high again. At least flirt with 40 wins this year and give reason for hope in 2008-2009.

Although I'd take a playoff appearance as well.

Tuesday would be a good idea. The marketing people in the NHL have to get creative and having a player like Crosby they should fully take advantage of it.

Have him go to the Rangers?

Anybody else watching the Wild/Black Hawks game. Granted I'm a WILD fan but Chicago is playing decent and the WILD are playing like crap.

Nice of Havlat get the injury over early before lifting hopes to high with a scoring binge.

My God, I checked and you're right.

Can U say snakebit?

How horrid. What is it with these guys?

couldn't happen to a worse guy... well maybe it could, but with the way havlat conducts himself on the ice, i'm thinking some of these injuries are karmic justice

What does Havlat do? Early reports are that he is out most of the year.

intentionally high sticked mark recchi in the head when he was on the senators. He also has been suspended multiple times for kicking. Basically he plays a little guy's game but mixes in some real cheap shots... then when other teams go after him he hides on the bench or one of his goon teammates will take the hit for him.

I was at last night's Hawks-Wings game at the UC, really an awesome time all around. Great to see them come back from the 3-1 deficit in the 3rd to tie it up, an exciting OT and then Kane gets the goal to win it in the shootout. Definitely the loudest I have heard that building in probably 10 years, and overall I've been impressed with this team so far, we'll see how it goes.

I'd feel much more confident if Havlat wasn't hurt. Nonetheless, this team has much more talent on the offensive attack this year. They played real good against the Wild and pulled out the win yesterday. Hopefully they string together a few W's.
