Hey hey! The Kings win! great second period. solid defensive effort after ohlund scored the second goal too.

Jonathan Toews's goal was sick.

The Canucks need to learn how to play 60 minutes. It was really frustrating watching their defensive play at times last night. Bieksa played horrible, and it would be nice if Luongo could make a big save once in awhile.

Btw love your sig, that goal was sick.

agreed on the goal and the canucks.

that's about the 5th canucks game i've watched this year, and aside from the second game against the oilers, they haven't played a complete game yet. kind of like when the canadiens outplayed florida for about 55 minutes and then lost in a shootout.

they seem to have trouble finishing plays. labarbera was really on last night too. made a couple of really nice saves in the third period.

so far today i've watched a 1-0 win in a SO for the Bruins over New York, a 3-2 win for Philly in overtime, and then the overtime of an Islanders win over New Jersey.

and there's still more hockey today.

i love center ice.

Watched the Hawks vs Leafs game today. The Leafs D is horrible, the Hawks were skating rings around them at points.

Went to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch that game along with the Illini game. Hawks were in total control in the 3rd period. It seemed like they were in the Leafs zone the whole period. Very impressed with the comeback today. It was nice to see so many different guys step up today.

It wasn't a great first 2 periods, but definitely fun to watch the Hawks take it to the Leafs in the 3rd. I think Toews and Kane both look great, hard to believe neither of them have turned 20 yet. Also nice to see that our offensive depth is better then it has been in a long time, I think despite the two kids, Lang, Sharp, Ruutu, Williams and Samsonov have all looked really good offensively, and the 3rd/4th liners are filling their role nicely too. Let's hope they can keep going with this positive start.

Minnesota is really good. Colorado is also very good.

I agree with both these statements, which leaves me confused where I slot the Blues. They dominated Colorado and got dominated by Minnesota.

i think colorado is going to be a hit and miss team because they still have shaky defense and goaltending.

minnesota might be the class of the western conference and perhaps the nhl. they've gone from a defensive dreamteam to a team with great prowess in both ends of the ice. roslton, demitra, gaborik, belanger, parrish, and bouchard is a terrific top 6 if that's how they choose to roll. now to stay healthy...

edit: forgot about koivu. so that's 7 potential top 6 forwards (maybe not belanger but eric belanger is one of my favorite players so he stays!).

Will wonders never cease? Rocky is trying to get home Hawks games on TV this season. It's amazing that this truly qualifies as big news with this franchise. They've got so far to go to become a legit presence in the league, but at least they have a strong history to build on. I might actually buy the center ice package midseason if it looks like they will stay competitive and show some more games on tv. When I did have it a few years ago, there were too many games that I couldn't see, thanks to the Hawks keeping half their games off the air and many teams keeping multiple games off tv.

So it's Rocktober in Chicago too?

Maybe if the Bruins and Rangers are good again you'll have the NHL back on ESPN.

LONG LIVE ROCKY WIRTZ!!!

Finally, a strong start to the season coupled with an opportunity to generate excitement via actually showing home games on TV. Hockey is BACK in Chicago!

Gotta love the job Rocky is doing. It would be awesome to finally see home games on TV.

pretty sad that a guy putting home games on tv means he's doing a great job, but when your previous owner is Dolla Bill Wirtz, just about anything is an improvement

can't wait til upshall is healthy and downie comes off suspension. With a full lineup, the flyers can throw up the following lineup:

gagne-briere-knuble

hartnell-carter-upshall

umberger-richards-lupul

eager-downie-kapanen

smith-timonen

coburn-hatcher

jones-kukkonen

very deep lineup... plus van riemsdyk, giroux, parent, nodl and potulny waiting in the wings. paul holmgren has done an amazing job so far... i shouldn't have doubted him.

I'm tempted to agree with my hockey nut friend and say Upshall should get a look at replacing Knuble on first line due to his speed and Knuble's lack thereof.

That may be due to the fact I love Upshall...

I like Upshall a lot too (what a sick return for forsberg... upshall, a future 2nd pairing stay-at-home defenseman in parent, and a first round pick), but Knuble is a good fit on the first line. He's probably a better natural scorer than Upshall, and while Briere and Gagne are more finesse players who will be on the perimeter, Knuble will be down low, setting screens and gobbling up rebounds.

Upshall should do well on the 2nd line. Carter is coming into his own, and Hartnell should be a good player too - though he hasn't done much so far.

I think my favorite player on the team is Mike Richards. He's leading the forwards in ice time, because he plays the point on the first power play unit and is also a top penalty killer. Good skater, plays smart, will drop the gloves with anybody to stick up for a teammate - even though it usually results in him getting beat up, because he's not a big guy. They've already made him an assistant captain, and he'll be the team captain at some point in the future. Provided the Flyers have room under the cap, I can see him being a less talented version of Bobby Clarke - a heart and soul guy who plays his whole career with the team.

I also like Kukkonen a lot. He doesn't seem to do any one thing really well (except maybe block shots) but he's so solid defensively and hardly ever out of position. When the Flyers were clueless on D last year, he was the type of guy they were missing. I guess Jason Williams has been pretty good for the Blackhawks, but I'm surprised they let Kukkonen get away.

That Forsberg trade was freaking ridiculous, I'm still not sure how that happened.

I have no real problems with Knuble, just blatant homerism for Upshall.

Labarbera is really playing well for them.

he has his good stretches. nashville was awful tonight though. we didn't play exceptionally well (23 giveaways or something like that) but they only had one real good chance all game (and labarbera made a good play there). he faced 17 shots i think.

really impressed with the offense tonight. even though nashville looked bad, everyone got involved. looks like they finally found a second line with frolov - o'sullivan - nagy. visnovsky is starting to pick up his play as well. even ivanans scored a goal and was generally effective.

I went to the Blues game last night and had a blast. I hadn't been to a hockey game in probably ten years, but I really enjoyed myself. I wouldn't know where to start though if I were to start getting into hockey. There's so little that I know.

The last team to lose in regulation just happened, the Flame beat the WILD. The WILD were up 3-0 and blew it. Very disturbing for this WILD fan. Edited by hawkcub
