I know this isn't the most popular topic on the board, and there's a lot of other stuff going on right now, with baseball coming to a close, football starting up and even some fall TV premieres. But I'm still interested in the NHL, and I'm looking forward to seeing the young Blackhawks take the ice in October. The media following the Blackhawks have been really high on guys like Kane and Toews (who just broke his finger) and even Skille and a few others. There's very little expectations for playoff hopes, but if these two start out with a little success, I'd have to think the team stands a chance of at least flirting with that 8th spot.

Then again, they'll probably finish at the bottom again and get themselves another top 5 draft pick.

Go Wings! It just feels so weird rooting for an organization that actually competes year in and year out for the Championship. I hope they can get to the finals sometime soon.

Screw the Wings. You know what really feels weird? Being in a bitter, bitter rivalry that is so one sided, that the other team barely realizes it is a rivalry.

Oh well.

The Blues should compete for a playoff spot this year. Good D, solid goaltending and hopefully a rejuvenated Rucinsky, Tkachuk and Kariya with a developing Stempniak-McClement-Backes line and the always solid Doug Weight.

Go Devils and Ducks!

I'm disappointed in myself for not getting any Ducks Stanley Cup Champion stuff

I'm sure that you're not the only one, the stuff was marked down 90% after a week around here.

Yep, the Wings have had the Maple Leafs, Blues, Hawks and now Nashville as the teams they battle for the top of the division. I'm curious on how the salary cap will effect them in time though.

Ah yes, the Stevie Y goal in the 1-0 OT win over your Blues was one of the best games I've ever seen. That was glorious.

i'm very excited about this year for the Kings. they had a very, very nice off-season. I think there's a chance that potential turns into production this year. playoff spot *might* not be out of the question, though I would still bet on them missing.

goaltending still needs a lot of work, though.

There's talk of them changing up the schedule in 2008, doing away with the unbalanced version and going back to having teams playing every team every year. I'd prefer to see them go to the home and home with everybody, but this would be a start. It's nice to have a chance to see them in NY, NJ or PHI every year. And often times the only time I can see them on TV is when they play a NY area team.

i haven't truly followed hockey since the Mario/Jaromir Penguins teams of the early 90's. it's nice to see that they finally have something exciting happening in Pittsburgh again

Oh, I know that feeling all too well (different sport, though).

Go Sabres!

It will be tough to follow them until after the Cubs are done but the most anticipated game of the year by far in the NHL is Sabres/Penguins January 1st at 1:00 PM OUTDOORS at Ralph Wilson Stadium. (Buffalo Bills stadium)

That would be sweet.

I saw that thing sold out all 60,000+ seats in like 40 minutes.

As a fair weathered Blackhawks fan, I know exactly what your talking about. We actually still consider the Blues a rival too I think

Heh, that's still a rivalry, but more of a who can lose more games and get the lowest pick kind of lottery. We won two years ago, but last year you got us. Touche, Hawks.

Go Wings!!!!!!!!!!!

Ducks suck!!!!!!!!!!!

I usually dont really get into hockey until after College Football reg season ends. Nice to see a thread about it though

Toews is hobbled, and Havlat tweaked his groin. Kane is a bit overmatched physically, and Khabi continues to be disappointing. Not a great start to the postseason. If the team starts well, I might get the center ice package at the halfway point, assuming the price comes down.

Lapointe is talking up Toews's leadership skills and worthiness as a captain. I'm really getting excited about the potential of these young guys, even if the most likely outcome is that they'll all stink and/or be bothered with injuries that limit their ability.

I wonder if Wirtz's death will be the end of the line for Red Wing affiliated people owning the Blackhawks.

The Little Ceasar Pizza guy is going to buy the Hawks.
