Finally Theriot gets dropped. DeRosa at 2 is awesome.

Good to not only see Soto in the lineup but not batting 8th. Lou is warming to him. :)

Badass lineup, except for Monroe, but what are you gonna do?

Let's do this.

With 3 lefties this series, I hope we don't see Monroe start in CF 3 straight times.

I have a feeling he'll have a break out series. Just a feeling.

I wouldn't at all mind to see this lineup in the playoffs.

Not assuming anything, just sayin.

With the possible exception of no Monroe.

Right.

Overlooked that. Jacque in CF against RHP. I guess Monroe still against LHP.

There's been a lot discussion about the Reds and the end of 2004 but, what of the Pirates? If I recall correctly, 2003 - didn't the Cubs clinch the division by sweeping the Pirates in a DH? What about 1984? I believed the Cubs clinched in Pittsburgh, beating the Pirates 4-2 - what I'm getting at, is quite a few good things have happened vs Pirates when there have been playoff implications.

I keep on forgetting Monroe's on the team.

I wish Lou would, too.

Meh, who would you start in CF against a lefty?

Yeah, it's also funny to remember back then everyone was rooting for the Brewers against the Astros. It was tied going into Friday, and the Cubs game got rained out, so people were already assuming a split in the Saturday DH, so everyone was merely hoping the Brewers could take 1 from the Stros. They took the first 2, the Cubs swept the DH, and just like that the division race was over.

Felix Pie. He has to develop and grow as a player somehow, you know?

Pie v. LHP in 2007:

For Iowa - .190/.254./.293

For the Cubs - .114/.139/.114

You were joking, right? There are nine games left in the season. Now is not the time to develop young players (unless those same young players give you the best chance to win right now). There's little dispute that Murton and Soto give the Cubs the best chance to win right now. Anyone suggesting that Pie gives the Cubs the best chance today v. a LHP is so oblivious to the actual facts that their opinion shouldn't ever be taken seriously.

True. 99% of the time I agree with playing the young player. But what's he really going to gain from the 9 games left this year? Now isn't really the time to let him develop.

At least Monroe has been halfway decent vs lefties.

That said, I wouldn't be completely opposed playing Pie, I just don't think that at this point in the season it's a priority to develop him unless we feel like he would perform better than the alternative.

No Marquis batting 8th and Theriot 9th, eh? Nice to see Soto in there and in an opening series, that's a nice sign. I like this lineup and it's time Monroe stepped up and had a good series.

Soto's getting his 4th start out of the last 7 games, and in 1 of the other games he was put in the game in the 5th inning. I think it's safe to say that even though Lou hasn't said anything about the catchers splitting time (probably to not say bad things about Kendall), that's exactly what he's doing. I put the odds at 60/40 that Soto gets a 2nd start in the Pirates series.

I've always felt that it was pretty unlikely to get an actual split in time between the two, but it's nice. I'd be happy if Soto were regularly getting 1 start per series, just because of how unlikely it is that Kendall's time would decrease any more than that, but this is kinda cool.

Geovany Soto.

He's a smart man that Lou. Keep it on the low and do it giving Kendall a chance and Soto gradually one too and let the one who is performing get the bulk of the playing time.
