Fred, I'm not sure where, but you goofed somewhere on this. Cubs.com has said that if a one-game playoff is necessary, Marquis will start it, and he won't be starting games on back-to-back days.

Found it.

The only date in which a starter is yet to be determined is Sept. 27, against the Florida Marlins. As of now, Ted Lilly and Marquis will pitch the first two games of that series, which starts next Tuesday, and Rich Hill, Carlos Zambrano and Lilly would go in the final regular-season series at Cincinnati Sept. 28-30.

if we're fortunate enough to still be winning on saturday, someone may have to pinch-hit for me as game thread starter. don't know if i'll have the laptop with me on vacation

A win coupled with a Brewers loss would make it exceedingly difficult for us to not win the division.

Never underestimate the power of our suckiness.

All nine games remaining are against teams who have had success against the Cubs this year. The Reds gave everything they had, even Griffey's right nut, in order to play spoiler, and we can expect the same the rest of the way. Winning 5 or 6 to finish off the season would definitely be a success.

Also, I know I'm in the minority here, as others can't get away with following during work, but I'm really glad tomorrow is a day game. I'm getting way too pumped right now to wait all freaking day for them to play.

Marquis is better at home than he is on the road, and better in day games than he is in night games.

Maholm is much worse on the road than he is at home, and much worse in day games than he is in night games.

Plus, we're fighting for a playoff spot and the Pirates are playing just to play. I like our chances a lot in today's game.

I used to love going on vacation this time of year.

That certainly sounds good.

Please just keep winning, Cubs.

As of right now, it looks as if I may make it home by 1:30. That's assuming my supervisor decides she doesn't want to do much work on a Friday afternoon and that we don't run into any non-compliance issues that can't wait until Monday.

I'm thinking I'll have no choice but to let Ron and Pat tell me about this one from my office. I love Gameday Audio.

And I'm really happy tomorrow's game is on WGN, so no worries about the Saturday afternoon Extra Innings blackout.

Tomorrow's game is proving to be problematic for me. The fair is in town, and I promised wife and daughter I'd go with them. It doesn't open until 10, so going and getting back in time is out of the question. I could try to go after the game. I may just have to miss the game, though. My daughter has been looking forward to the fair for a long time.

The answer to this seems simple, man. It's family.

Intersting. While hes 4-0 vs the Cubs in his career, and 2-0 this year, however he has an ERA of 5.02 vs. the Cubs, suggesting that our offense doesnt so much have a problem with him as the Pirates offense gives him some good run support against us.

I'm on the same boat. There will also probably be chunks of the game (most likely toward the end, unfortunately :x) where I will be unable to even utilize Pat and Ron, and I will be relying on this thread.

The most important game of the season is always the next one.

Not if you've just won 10 in a row and are up 14.5 games above your 2nd place team with 14 left to go. :)
