In late 2002, I wanted John McLaren (current M's skipper) to be the next manager of the Chicago Cubs, obviously they went with Baker who did not live up to expectations (I thought he was a bad fit for the state of the team).

Now to the mistake, Mclaren has done a poor job in Seattle by showing a damaging veteran presence and not putting his foot down and being too much of a player's manager.

In hindsight, I wanted the wrong man to lead the Cubs to go along with the Cubs hiring the wrong man to lead the Cubs.

First time I ever played baseball, well technically tee ball, I ran to 3rd base instead of 1st, and never dropped my bat.

In tee ball I peed my pants while playing first base. Not exactly a baseball mistake, but it was very distracting and I think I cried....so it really affected my performance.

When I was 13, the leadoff guy got on in the seventh and our coach gave me the sac bunt sign.

I hadn't bunted all year, that I can remember, and the pitch was way outside, so out of habit I pulled the bat back. The guy on first got thrown out going for second.

I ended up walking and getting picked off of first. Not my finest half inning.

first practice of my first tee ball team ever and i hit our best player in the back of the head on a throw to first.

i made up for it in the championship game though. 2 grand slams! i retired on a high note. on the second grand slam my shoe came off while i was rounding third. there were no fences, so it was still a live play. i tried to put my shoe back on.

in a teachers/students softball game in fifth grade, i rolled one to short, the shortstop threw it away, and i got picked off in a run-down between first and second.

Out of curiosity, did you ever bunt in practice before that?

I told my daughter to run after a pass-ball (as a parent) and she did, the coach looked at me anfd so did the ump. between innings I asked the ump why she couldn't and he said that rule only is in affect for 12 year old and up. I kept my mouth shut for the rest of the game

You have a best player on a tee-ball team? How old was he, 10? All the kids I see playing at the T-ball level are 5 and 6, usually the best kid is the one not picking his nose in the field while the other kids are running around chasing a butterfly or watching planes fly over head.

Right there with you PH. In hindsight, it doesn't look like there was anyone that was a good candidate, among those that were talked about. Maybe Fredi Gonzalez.

I admit to heavily campaigning for JD Drew, Jason Schmidt and (last resort) Barry Zito to be signed to the 2007 Cubs.

Instead of JD Drew the Cubs signed Cliff Floyd. Neither have been very effective, but at least Cliffy is only signed for potentially another year.

Instead of Jason Schmidt or Barry Zito, the Cubs signed Ted Lilly and Jason Marquis. Ted Lilly has been a pretty good addition and while I still hate Jason Marquis contract a lot, its better then getting absolutely nothing from Jason Schmidt and a mediocre season from Zito, who were both signed for longer and at more money.

However, in 2005, I did campaign to sign Magglio Ordonez. We got Jeromy Burnitz instead.
