Beautiful.

I'm going to print that out and keep a copy in my wallet.

Do they archive these things? I want to see the Cubs-Rockies game from 6-25-07, next to the Cubs-Brewers game from 6-29-07, next to this one. I think that Cubs-Rockies would be the best one because there should have been large spikes in both directions in the 9th.

Total awesomeness.

Awesome, thanks. I like how the 9th inning spikes in the one against Colorado shape out a big W. Also, I like quoting tonight's fan graph and making it show up again. :D Geovany Soto.

Holy crap. I left to go to the store for some food when it was 4-4 and got back just after the game had ended. Also just watched the ninth inning on MLB.TV and listened to Pat and Ron's call of the ninth. Amazing.

I seriously love this team - I was at BW3's tonight with a friend absolutely pissing and moaning his ear off because we were going to be behind the Brewers by percentage points, then they pull off the comeback in the 9th...oh my lord I love this team.

Food for thought - the Reds announcers said that if the Cubs split their last 12 (go 5-6 now), the Brewers would have to go 9-5 (8-5 now) to take the division from us.

I like our odds.

If those videos didn't satisfy your hunger, then open up the linescore on the right, and click on the bottom half of the inning. I'm not an mlb.tv subscriber, but the archived games have worked for me with some regularity, and I am now watching the bottom of the ninth in its entirety.

Thanks!!

Question...why didn't the Reds walk bases loaded in order to have a force at home instead of leaving it 1st and 3rd with 0 outs? I could see 1st and 3rd with 1 out but with none, I don't get it.

I have no idea? Might as well have a force at every base. Perhaps the manager didn't trust that Weathers can throw strikes?

That's the thing. If you catch the grounder at second, you still have to check third and that would make it very difficult to turn 2. So you go 1. Now you have 2nd and 3rd, now they have to walk the next guy, who was on deck when they pitched to DeRosa?

Jones was on deck behind DeRosa. The Reds manager said he didn't want to walk the bases loaded and put that much pressure on Weathers to throw strikes.

I guess what he did didn't work either. If Weathers can't throw a strike get somebody that can is my train of thought. DeRosa was hot and it just didn't make any sense to me. Thanks for answering the question, I can see why he did it but it wouldn't be the route I'd go.

Random brewerfan.net rant of the night:

I am so freaking tired of the Cubs's luck especially this last week or so. Every bounce, and every little thing is going their way. On that triple by Ramirez, Hopper makes a diving attempt that he almost caught. he would've caught that against the Brewers. It's just so depressing. The Brewers do everything they have to do, and it looks like they are going to pull even with the Cubs who are 3 outs away from defeat and what happens?? Ughhhhh I hate to say it but it just doesn't seem to me that destiny is smiling on the Brewers and I'm afraid they are going to come up just a bit short. What really sucks about it is the Cubs have NO BUSINESS, absolutely NONE being in 1st place. They are NOT as talented as the Brewers. It may sound like sour grapes, but it's really not when I say I have watched and listened to a number of Cubs games this year and they have had so much luck go their way. So many fluky things have happened that have allowed them to win some games this year.

LOL, he doesn't watch many Cubs games does he.

Well the post is pretty silly, its just a rant but balls have been bouncing the Cubs way left and right since about late May now. The wild pitching in philly, the flurry of 2 out RBI hits in July, all the errors and bad defense other teams played in August, games like tonight where a couple misplayed balls hand the game to you.

Someone upstairs is on the Cubs side.

Granted in April/May the opposite happened, the Cubs couldn't buy a break and Yost even said he thought more things bounced our way in that one month than all of last year.

Its funny how you call that post silly, yet made a post on the same board basically saying the same silly crap.

From Ender

I swear the Cubs have won more games on stupid crap this season than any team in history. Seems like every night its a wild pitch or a ball off someones glove or a bad call by the ump helping them.

What part of last night was on "stupid crap"? A walk, a line drive single by Lee, a gapper by Aram?

It was the part where the Cubs got a buttload of borderline calls from the umpires and their centerfielder made a leaping catch into the ivy wall to rob a ball that would've been a homer in any other spot in the ballpark.

Oh you say that was the Reds?

They are giving it away for free, for now. Which means I basically wasted $90 since that's all I used it for.

Sure, but there was that botched call at first on an inning-ending DP (or what should have been) which directly resulted in a run.

Oh wait ... you say that was the Reds too?

Ooops, never mind.

Lets hope the protest is no big deal.

I'm still working through the thread so I don't know if it's been posted already but it looks like the Reds don't have a valid protest:

... Piniella crossed the foul line, then told Reed he would be making a double switch.

Cincinnati manager Pete Mackanin immediately argued and then protested, stating the rules claim a manager has to go directly to an umpire before making a double switch.

"Why I knew the rule is because it happened to me," Mackanin said.

But Reed said the umpiring manual book, separate from the official rules, does indeed allow for a manager to make a switch after crossing the foul line — if it is on the first visit to the mound.

Reed read Rule 3.5 from the manual: "There is no requirement the manager or coach announce to the umpire a double switch before coming across the foul line."

Reed then said, "On the first trip the manager has the option, as long as he doesn't call the pitcher in and make that move first, to make that double switch after he gets to the mound."

The Reds can continue with the protest, which is reported to cost $25,000, or they can withdraw it. Reed will send the information to the commissioner's office, which would make a final ruling if the Reds follow through with their protest.
