I'm not excusing Soriano's running, it was really dumb, but Keppinger was dumb to throw to 3rd on that. Runner on 3rd vs. runner on 2nd isn't a big deal whereas, there's more risk of not getting the out there going to 3rd compared to 1st. Who cares if it's a guy on 3rd with 2 outs. The slight risk of 1st and 3rd with 1 out isn't worth it.

major league baseball players are generally capable of making 65 foot throws. it's not like it was even close. it was as routine of a tag play as occurs on a baseball field.

I'm following on gamecast and I can tell Soriano is at fault for this based on the reactions in the game thread, but how does one actually get caught in a fielder's choice at third base when there was no force?

It's still a fielder's choice even with the tag, because the fielder chose to make the play at a base other than 1st.

No no, I know the ruling is right. I meant why was the shortstop throwing to third base on such a play (which you later questioned too and said it was a poor decision) and why Soriano would risk it.

Surprise, people on here aren't blaming the golden boy.

There is blame for sure. But if theriot is backtracking several steps, and Soriano is just standing there, why dones't he call him off and make the catch?

wait a sec, so if the Cubs come back win this game, it's not gonna count?

Definitely possible.

Yeah the Reds protest a game that means nothing to them, in which they have gotten the benefit of the doubt on several calls. Meanwhile the Astros called to ask me if I could pitch against the Brewers. Seems on the level to me.

You honestly think the Astros are trying to lose don't you?

No, but I don't think they care if they do. Whereas the Reds are really trying to play spoiler.

the Astros definitely seem to be taking the 'let's see how these young guys do' route right now, whereas they did no such thing when we faced them last week.

Surprise, Brenly's blaming Soriano.

Well thats cause it was his ball to get. The OF should call off an infielder back peddaling every time

Absolutely.

What part of that play makes that not the left fielder's?????

The same thing that caused Jones to make an amazing diving catch a few weeks ago when it should have been a routine left field flyout.

Theriot called the damn ball from the 2nd it went in the air. Soriano for once decides not to run over his teammate to catch a ball and he gets blamed for it. Amazing.

The OF coming in facing the play has priority, he could tell Theriot was struggling. Simply call him off and make the play.

Yeah they made a point to say how they wouldn't do that because it would affect the integrity of the playoff race. Yet, now they have no problem doing it. It is a joke. It would be the equivalent of LaRusa saying hey we are out of it Pujols you take the milwaukee series off.

Has nothing to do with Theriot being the golden boy. That is the LF's ball. He didn't even have to run hard to get there. Meanwhile, Theriot is drifting straight back and adjusting to the wind.

Soriano jogged in and was in position to get there, but he loafed and gave up on it. He needs to take charge and make the routine catch.
