Howry is the freakin' man. He's like an awesome robot out there. Can people stop acting like it's a rarity when he comes out there and shuts the other team down? Edited by Sammy Sofa

walking people in front of soriano?

Uh...okay. I understand it sets up the dp, but still.

Soriano has a much better chance at a crap ab then does Ward. Just goes to show how "respected" Soriano is in the league.

or how respected Ward is..that's the 7th intentional walk for Ward and he's only had 95 AB's this year.

IBBs in the NL don't mean as much - don't know how many times he had a much weaker hitter/the pitcher's spot behind him.

True, although I know 5 of them. 3 in front of Soriano, 1 in front of Theriot, 1 in front of Barrett. I'm not completely sure about the other two.

And Ward isn't the type of guy you'll see bat 8th, but still I think IBB/PA isn't a great way to determine a player's respect since there are so many variable s that go into getting an intentional pass (setting up DPs, lefty-righty matchups, etc.).

that's ignoring the fact that most managers are not of particularly high intelligence. Average, in the world of baseball decisions, does not mean that something is reasonable

I can't help it. He has had some pretty noteworthy implosions this year that just stick in my head everytime he is up. That said, he is certainly our second most reliable reliever on the team this year.

This will be the worst defeat of the season.

IF the Cubs lose, it won't even be in the top 5 worst defeats of the season.

You're right of course, but that doesn't make me any less pissed off about you saying it.

Based on the situation and time of year, I feel it will. But then again, any loss from this point forward might feel that way.

If you take the situation out of each game, I'll say that Dempster's implosion against the Mets is the worst defeat of the year for me.

Yeah, it was. The game where Z imploded against the Reds sucked, too. And that last BS against the Dodgers really stung, IMO.

I tent to look at it in an "every game counts" way. Every game you win in April/May/June is a game you don't "have" to have down the stretch.

So, lets score here. I dont like extra innings with this team.

What's our record in EI's?

Something redonkulous like 1-7.

That's the problem, everyone remembers the bad outings but no one remembers the good outings. Look at his numbers after April - he has been fantastic..

Exactly. Not that he's been as dominant as Marmol, but didn't Carlos have some shaky outings early on? I remember him walking in a winning run in a game.

Good bunt. Looks like they'll walk Rammy.

Shocking. Why sac bunt in that situation when you know it will lead to Ramirez being IBB'd?
