After a big win over the Cardinals on Monday, the Cubs go back on the road to begin a 3 game series against the Astros. Last time the Cubs went to Houston, the Astros swept the Cubs in three very disappointing games. Pitching matchup:

Jason Marquis: 11-8, 4.13 ERA, 172 IP, 156 hits, 97 K's/69 BB's

Brandon Backe: 0-1, 4.76 ERA, 5.2 IP, 8 hits, 0 K's/3 BB's

Houston is not that good of a team, so of course they are going to give the Cubs their share of struggles. I expect all three games in this series to be close. The Cubs really do need to go on a winning streak and winning tomorrow would be a solid start to the series.

Just don't lose, you stupid idiots.

Is Backe a lefty?

I dread Old Car in the juice box, but hey, maybe he'll pull another miracle out of his butt. Make some momentum, you bums! The next hot streak starts HERE!

I guess we can just forget about the game thread starters next year, it's starting to spiral out of control again.

i think Laura is AWOL, cuz she'd be setting this straight if she were around

Is it really that big of deal? Bob was up and he was MIA, so Flames started it, and since the Cubs won hes starting another one. People take this game thread starter crap wayyyyyyyyyy to serious.

Apparently Bob lost his turn and Flames is in his spot now as I see in the Game Starters thread. Sorry for the overreaction, it's really not a big deal.

Yeah, I PMed Bob and he never responded so he's been knocked off. The rule is that if a game thread isn't up after midnight, someone can spot start as Flames did. Seeing as the team actually got a win with Flames, I told him to keep going (I'm not going to be the one to jinx the team by telling UMF to go). UMFan is next.

okay, cool.

just because some people don't think the game thread starter rules are a big deal doesn't mean you should disregard them (not you, Raisin, but "you" as in everyone).

Yes they do... But when you look at the possibility of starting a playoff game for the Cubs (and possibly a World Series game, LOL) it's tempting.

Cubs miss Roy Oswalt and recent Cubs Killer Wandy Rodriquez vs. the Stros. The only matchup that scares me here is Traschel/Williams. Its like one of those Maddux/Glavine type old timers duels, only they suck. I assure you that Trasch will be on a short leash.

If Trachsel is on a short leash for this game, hopefully Marshall is ready in the bullpen to fill in any missing innings and receives a chance to earn his job back.

Marshall is supposed to pitch in one of the games on Saturday, so I don't know how much he'd be used on Thursday. Kevin Hart will probably be available to pitch, unless Marquis flops tomorrow night.

I think Trachsel is going to be used as long as possible with 4 games in 3 days against the Cards this weekend. Marshall is scheduled to pitch game 2 of the DH on Saturday, so he's not likely to be used out of the pen. I'd much rather see them go with Hart or Gallagher as a long man...or better yet...not need to use a long man...

I'd much rather see them go with Hart or Gallagher as a long man...or better yet...not need to use a long man...

i just hope everyone is mentally preparing themselves for a playoff roster that includes Trachsel but not Marshall
