Im not talking CY Young, Im not talking Rolaids relief(which he deserves), Im talking MVP. MVP traditionally doesnt need to be the best player in the game, just the guy the team cant do without.

Marmols a guy that if it werent for him, with the BP inconsistancy the Cubs would NOT be where they are. Now I know, Jacque Jones has had a great 2nd half, but Marmols done it all season while the likes of Howry, Eyre, Ohman, and Wuertz were taking turns blowing leads or letting close games get out of reach.

I woudlnt expect him to win it, especially with Fielder and Pujols likely battling it out, but does anyone think he might get a vote or 2 thrown his way?

No. My money says he doesnt get a single vote.

I do agree that he has really helped stabilize the Cubs bullpen. It was in shambles early in the season. Right about when he came up it really improved.

You mean, like of the NL? I thought you meant a team MVP in a vote on nsbb or something.

No, a middle reliever will never win the MVP, no matter how good he's been. I'd be shocked if he got so much as 1 vote, actually.

if any sportswriter does vote for him they should be fired immediately.

Umm, okay.

To answer the question, no, he won't get any votes. But we wouldn't be in first place without him.

This thread reminds me of the Cards Talk thread the other day discussing, in earnest, whether Yadier Molina will be a HOFer.

The difference between the two forums is that on Cards talk nobody doubted that he'd be a HOFer...it was just a question of which round he'd get in.

Marmol is definitely having a good season and he's a key part of the Cubs' success. However, there's no way, shape, or form whatsoever in this universe that he gets NL MVP consideration.

I think the real question is, what is Carlos' role with the team next year? Are they going to try to regroom him into a starter or make him the closer?

Even before this year, the Cubs organization said that he would be a future closer. They used him in a starting role at Iowa because there were starting spots available, but he is staying in the bullpen.

Ha, there ya go. Didn't think there was a definitive answer out there.

This is a really weird transaction
The transaction was this thread being traded from Transactions to Baseball Discussions for a thread to be named later. :D

You wouldn't be in 1st place without Ned Yost either, doesn't mean he should win the MVP!

Marmol has been good but if you take away the best hitter or ace starter on any 1st place team most of them wouldn't be in 1st anymore either.

That's a cumulative stat, correct? I thought it was but since Dempster and Marmol are towards the top and both have missed significant time it makes me think it isn't.

It is but you can also get -WPA. Carlos Villaneuva would have been towards the top of those charts had he been injured at the all star break but he wasn't and had a complete collapse in the 2nd half and now isn't in the top 100.

there are like 12 guys on the team without whom the cubs wouldn't be in first place.

Marmol, Zambrano, Hill, Lilly, DLee, Ramirez, DeRosa, Theriot, Soriano... who else would you add to that list?
