Can someone explain to me why Pie is still on the bench?

Can someone explain to me why Jones is in versus a lefty?

Because Jones has been hot, he's a vet, and there are no RH options for CF unless you count Monroe, which Lou obviously doesn't.

Jones looked pathetic Tuesday night against Shouse (Lefty)

He did, but Pie wasn't any better against LHP when he was getting PT, perhaps even worse.

I'd like to see Pie get more PT, but Jones has been doing pretty well overall. I am all right with playing him until his hot spell runs it's course.

Then he came right back last night and got a hit off of him.

Is there a thread about the Mets/Phillies game last night I think where the second baseman was taken out and the runner was called out for interference? I agree with the call because the runner did not even try to slide before he hit the fielder. Doesn't an attempt have to be made to slide before the base?

I've got a horrible feeling about this game. I might not even watch. The Cubs seem to do better when I don't watch anyway.

Would you really rather have Pie in there against a lefty than Jacque?

I love how Yost throws any random lefty he can find against us.

Nothing like realizing your team's badness in a certain area is noted and responded to in spades by opposing teams.

Hell, if I was an opposing manager I'd start pulling freaking BULLPEN LEFTIES out and start them against us. It's that horrible, honestly it is.

Did you know the Cubs rank 28th in OPS against lefties? .716

29th in runs scored? 140

29th in total bases? 439

29th in RBI? 133

The Brewers rank at or near the top of the league in those categories against lefties. And Ted Lilly's numbers against Milwaukee have been pedestrian: 2 starts, 1-1 record, 5.25 ERA.

Tonight is a scary night. We lose to some young, inexperienced pitcher in our building to allow the Crew within a half game? Can you say momentum switch?

Im not goin to anymore cubs games everytime I go they lose just like last nite.

But I did make it on tv on the fsn wisconsin feed tho. It was after the commercial goin into the top of the 8h inning, thought that was pretty sweet.

yes, the game ended on a double play where the ball was thrown to 2nd base for the first out, and though the throw to 1st was late, the runner was called out because marlon anderson just slid at the shortstop and not the base. it was the right call

I would. Jones has already established in his career that he cannot hit LHers. Maybe Pie can be taught to. Since it is an automatic out anyway, I would rather go with the youth and better defense.

What I find even more troubling is Monroe being in the lineup. Of course I find it troubling that he is even on the team.

it seems pretty clear that murton's days with the cubs are numbered.

I thought his fate was sealed with the Monroe trade.

Pie should be sent to Iowa if he's going to be relegated to pinch running and late inning defensive roles.

Not going to happen with a day until september callups.

Just win cobs!

So, neither Murton or Pie get a start in the entire Brewers series? This is what people mean when they say that those two need more playing time

Even worse when the veterans who are playing tonight are not better options than Murton or Pie. I am not saying that Piniella is as bad of a manager as Baker. This however is one of the reasons that people didnt like Baker.

Obviously, but it has been frustrating watching him waste away on the bench.

Your sig either needs to add a game to the Brewers' games out, unless it's already figuring a loss for tonight, in which case take a game away from the Cards'. I'm exceedingly skeptical of our chances tonight, so I think it'd be understandable either way.

Jacque is hitting .276/.344/.379 against lefties in 58 AB's this year. That's an automatic out? Not great, but better than in his past and better than Pie.

Do you want to compare how Monroe has hit lefties this year compared to the other options?
