Pie, I can see. He hasn't looked good at all at the plate.

But Marshall? Huh?

Yeah I don't get the incessant Marshall hate either. Who knows what Gallagher will do, but to say you don't want to experiment with Pie in one breath, and then in the next say you want to experiment with Gallagher?

........eh?

Are you purposely avoiding his point? Your namesake has stunk since the ASB.

I wouldnt say hes stunk. Hes been what we thought hed be, a decent pinch hitter/spot starter. Did anyone really think hed keep up the .400 avg. the whole season. No. He was never slated to be a star. He was`supposed to be a David Eckstine, and thats what he is so far. Pie, on the other hand was supposed to be Jose Reyes, or even a Jimmy Rollins. Granted, hes only 22, and hopefully he will be, but as of now, his only use to the big league team is as a pinch runner, and thats not how you want to use your numbe 1 prospect, and hes better off in AAA.

Hes stunk since his first 70 ab's plain and simple, he has an OPS under .600 since.

Replaced with..?

Jake Fox for Pie

Pignietello for Marshall

Gallagher to the rotation.

Yeah, Gallagher looked great last night.

We have yet to see what he can do as a starter. Starting and relieving are 2 entirely different animals, and you cant expect a guy whose gone his entire career, be it a short one as a starter to instantly translate into a relief pitcher, just like you cant expect a guy whose alway been a starter his entire career to instantly produce when reduced to a pinch hitter or platoon player.

which tells you nothing about how he would be a starter

I suppose hes pretty good as far as number 5ers go, but I would like to see Gallagher get some starts.

I refuse to revoke my stance on Pie. Hes essentially getting on the job training, and thats OK when your 12 games out, but when your in the thick of a pennant race, you cant afford it.

The Cubs are not going to win a WS until Pie becomes a valuable everyday player. That will happen with playing time in the major leagues. So I would contend the Cubs cannot afford to not let him play.

i'm all for pie getting his PT, but thats a bit far fetched to say that we can't win WITHOUT him.

My point is that the Cubs are not an elite team. Since the Cubs are probably not going to be able to add a free agent CFer this offseason, one way the Cubs can improve and become an elite team is for players like Pie, Soto and Murton to become quality everday players. Probably the only way that is going to happen at this point is to just let them play. Yes it may cost the team a playoff spot this year but may really improve them in the future. I would be much more in favor of taking that risk than hoping we can have a fluke playoff run like the Cardinals did last year.

So why did jimbo spend all of that money on the likes of Soriano, Lilly, and Derosa while all along the answer was right in front of his face. 99 years of futility, and all we needed was Felix Pie. May as well trade Ramirez and Lee and let Zambrno go o the Yanks, because it's all about Pie.

Who is elite in the NL though? If the Cubs sneak into the playoffs, are they even going to be underdogs in the first round? The Cardinals at least had to beat a really good team in the Mets last year. This year, everybody in the NL side of the playoffs are going to be about the same. I'd rather take that risk then have the added advantage of a month and half of playing time for 3 players, of which 1 of those 3 is probably going to get a lot of PT anyway.

BTW, I'm still all for Murton to get most all of the playing time in the OF and Soto to get all the time at backup C. Pie can get a decent amount of PT until Soriano comes back, and I'd still like Pie to be on the playoff roster if the Cubs get there.

The fact of the matter is you can bring up all the top prospects you want. You'll get a few Ryan Brauns, and you'll get a lot of Corey Pattersons. The Cubs dont have great track record. The last star position player to come out of our farm was Mark Grace some 20 years ago. Since then, we've had jorneymen like Doug Glanville and Dwight Smith and total busts like Gary Scott and David Kelton. In a perfect world, Pie, Soto, Fox, Cedeno, Theriot, Craig and Coates would all make up for it and be perenial All Stars, however, this season is not one where we can go messing around with a guy whose clearly not ready for Major League pitching.

Fontenot does his job as a backup. Pie was supposed to lead to Cubs to glory. Maybe he will on day, but not yet. Theres no purpose to sending Fontnot down. He'll do there what hes doing here. As for Pie, he can either stay in the Majors as a backup/pinch runner and waste his talent and loose confidence or he can play out the AAA season as a top player in the league, and come back up in September as a back up, play some winter ball, and see what happens out of Spring Training.

Having an OPS under .600 is not doing your job, and Fontenot starts alot. Pie is 22 years old and there are 19 more days left till Sept, no reason to send him down. Pie has made an adjustment at every level hes been in after struggling. Hes not the problem on this team. If Kendall and Jones continue hitting the way they have been, and Aram and Soriano can come back swinging the bats this offense might be able to score some runs. Right now there are no better options than Felix Pie so you might as well play him and see if he can make an adjustment, and even if he doesnt, its way to damn early to call him a bust.

Never called him a bust. It is way too early to call him a bust. Its even too early to call Corey Patterson a bust. I am saying that he is not ready for the majors just yet, and its time to give someone else shot. You never know who may end up being our Ryan Braun.

I havent been around too much lately but I see you have made a lot of friends. By the way I clarified my position in another post. I am not delusional enough to think that Pie is going to be the savior of the team. Also your avatar pretty much explains your ability for rational intelligent thought. It's not working. Looks like we'll need the commercial-grade image.

Probably not working because while you may not like the wording of the original post, you can't argue the validity of the arguement no matter how many goofy pictures you put up.
