And the Iowa shuttle probably isn't slowing down any time soon. Left-hander Carmen Pignatiello (2.78 ERA) and catcher Geovany Soto (.348 average) could be next in line to get the call. The Cubs are down to one left-handed reliever now that Will Ohman has been demoted to Iowa, and back-up catcher Koyie Hill is hitting only .153.

Awesome

Yay, now the speculation of who is going down.

-Ronny Cedeno

-Eric Patterson

-Matt Murton

WTF? Are they just throwing stuff on a wall to see what sticks?

It worked for Lou earlier in the year, why not? Standing pat certainly isn't working.

I sure hope Felix is here to stay -- quit jerking him back and forth between Chicago and Iowa -- please just commit to using him as your everyday center fielder for the rest of '07 and focus on getting some power off waivers for one of the corner positions.

So, Epatt probably gets sent down then? Once again we added a guy to the 40-man for a couple of at-bats. Hendry is losing his mind.

it'd be hard for me to believe that epatt would be going down after his hit last night. it has to be cedeno, doesn't it? he's not really shown any reason to be up here, has he? epatt can play 2nd. and, with jones really struggling, maybe we get a murton-pie-derosa outfield for the time being.

good news for pie, though. let's hope they just put him there and let him play the rest of the season.

Please just release Cliff Floyd.

I'm sure he's a hell of a guy, but he has no place on a supposed contender.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mike Fontenot gets sent down.

that's true. didn't even think of that. he's been pretty awful since his hot start.

Yes he does. He just has no place playing every day and hitting 5th on a contender.

I wouldn't either, he's had about a 550 OPS since the break, I think. Not sure why they didn't bring up Pie in the first place, given the obvious need for an OF. It would be so ridiculous to send down Patterson after 2 days.

He's hitting well, but he can never slide or do anything that would cause him to leave his feet, as he'll probably break his back or something. Shouldn't have been signed in the first place.

Has our offense become so bad that we now believe that Cliff Floyd is "hitting well"?

His OPS in July was .689.

So far in August, it's .679.

Right now, he's a terrible baseball player.

Not sure why a weak bloop single would prevent him from being sent down. It's hard for me to believe a team would be stupid enough to add a guy to the 40 man and then send him down 2 days later, when all they had to do was call up Pie in the first place. But it's the Cubs, so it could happen.

I have to assume Patterson is up for at least the next week or so.

Just wrote something about installing Pie as the everyday CF in today' Game Thread hopefully, it'll happen tonight. He may not out hit Jones/Pagan but, he's the superior defensive player that alone will help.
