Have Piniella/Hendry even attempted an explanation of why Soto hasn't been called up?

Maybe because he's not fully ready for the Big Leagues.

Give Kendall a break.

Nice to see all our flaws being exposed on national TV.

Marquis has been awful for 6 weeks, our OF completely sucks, our offense is inept against LHP and our trainers are beyond bad.

Yeah, aside from the fact that he hasn't.

Damn it DeRosa, what the hell

What was his July ERA again? 6?

Yeah, he's awesome.

Look at his game log. He hasn't been as bad as you make him out to be. As I said in another thread, he's the best 5th starter in baseball too.

You're right, I was wrong.

He's been bad for 9 weeks. His June ERA was over 5 and his July ERA was over 6.

Yeah, great, he can mix in one good start amidst 3 godawful ones. We should be lucky we have him for 3 years.

3 of his last 6 starts have been quality. No 5th starter in baseball has a better ERA than Marquis.

Keep the hyperbole coming.

first of all, he's not their #5 starter. secondly, if you insist on calling him a #5, no other #5 has a $21 mil contract.

in related news to kendall's two outs, soto hit another home run today

Doesn't he have more homeruns this season than all the players on the big league club now? Granted he's doing it in AAA, but come on already. He deserves his chance.

Shouldn't Pie play over Jones?

Shouldn't Murton play over Floyd?

Shouldn't Soto play over Kendall?

Face it Lou is Dusty with less skin pigment.

not even close

Marquis bats, apparently we are punting tonight.

Yep. Let 'em win, save the bullpen. On national TV too.

The hot streak we were on is officially over, gentlemen. Pray the Crew is emotionally damaged from today's collapse.

They were until they started watching this game. Their morale is back up.

Too bad he's the 3rd starter

Yeah, I was gonna say, Marquis is our #3. And he's one of the worst in baseball, easily.

I would like to see Kendall get a nice long break. Watching Soto play.

OMG!! The Cubs are down by 3 runs in the 5th inning!?! This game is over, and probably the season too!! This team is the worst ever!!

Honestly, it's like some people have never watched a baseball game before, much less an entire season.

It's the way the Cubs are losing. Left-handed pitcher....you might as well chalk up a loss.

Yeah, and the old geezer Glavine probably isn't going to pitch more than another inning. This game is far from over.

yeah soto needs another 3 years in iowa... maybe by 2010 his OPS will be up to 2.000 and he'll really prove that he deserves a shot

I tend to think the lack of patience and trouble against lefties go hand in hand. Without any quantitative research at my disposal, it seems most lefties are finesse pitchers, and if they're on then they can easily expose the "hack early and often" approach on offense.

It is a lot closer than you think, besides Izturis losing out to the Riot it is close. Oh and Marquis is getting close to Estes territory.

Eyre coming in, it's already 4-0. It's over, accept it.

I don't mean to quench the recent enthusiasm, but we've got too many holes on this team. Those who are predicting we'll win this division by 5 plus games may be very surprised.

haven't heard anyone say five games. in fact, I think just about everyone here thinks we have holes -- look at the game threads :)

Yep, I've heard it on this board.

I have serious doubts. Marquis absolutely sucks. Kendall, well...nuff said. Pagan is pathetic. And our offense, no power. Continued lack of patience. Can't hit left-handed pitching.

We're a playoff team? LOL

We're four months into the season and these players have carried us to a 58-51 record. And we're in a weak division. We ARE NOT a lock for the playoffs -- and I really don't see anyone here saying that -- But we also don't deserve a "LOL" in regards to playoff chances.

Well, that's the way I feel about the Cubs tonight. Aside from the one inning yesterday, what the hell did we do?

We have too many holes. We MIGHT make the playoffs, but I have no hopes that we'll advance.

You don't have to be a good team to advance in the playoffs. Any crap team can beat a good one 3 out of 5.

I have been wondering lately why we even play those games where we are facing a lefthander. The outcome in known in advance, it's hot out and our players could use the rest.

So now "we might make the playoffs." That's all I wanted - just a little rational optimism.

But "no hope" that we'll advance? We can play good baseball for the next two months to make the playoffs, but you have not hope for the five games directly after that. Silly.

Yep; bunch of impatient whining fans. How dare you expect anything out of this organization?
