Come on, Mizzou. "5th starter" is nonsense. That's a cherry picked fact. He's a bad starter. No contending team should have a 5th starter who pitches with an ERA above 5 for 2 straight months. You know better that that.

He had a very good April and a decent May. He's fallen off a cliff since.

It's not nonsense. He's the 5th best starter on this team. It's silly to compare him to other team's aces and such. It makes sense to see how he performs compared to other team's 5th starters. And he performs very well. Better than every other team's 5th starter. He's doing his job.

What?? "He's doing his job"?? What's his job? To pitch us out of games? To give up 4 runs in 5 IP? He's sucked the past 2 months. He's the "5th starter" because he's easily the worst on our staff. He's making too much money to have a above 5 ERA.

Seriously, why do you continue to say that? It's a flat out lie.

If you're not going to be truthful, I'm not going to waste time talking to you.

in related news to kendall's two outs, soto hit another home run today

Doesn't he have more homeruns this season than all the players on the big league club now? Granted he's doing it in AAA, but come on already. He deserves his chance.

Shouldn't Pie play over Jones?

Shouldn't Murton play over Floyd?

Shouldn't Soto play over Kendall?

Face it Lou is Dusty with less skin pigment.

not even close

It is a lot closer than you think, besides Izturis losing out to the Riot it is close. Oh and Marquis is getting close to Estes territory.

It's a little closer than I originally thought, but with the moves Lou made pulling guys from the minors and back, and actually allowing Theriot the opportunity to win the job from Izzy.......Lou's still well out of Dusty territory, IMO.

But, we shouldn't be happy with that. It is kind of like saying, "compared to Hitler, Hussein hasn't really killed a lot of people." Lou is hurting this team with his love affair with old, crappy outfielders. Oh and the Soto thing is ridiculous, the guy is ready to get his shot.

Thank you.. I tire of seeing all the "it's a crap shoot in the post season" posts. Even if that's true, I'd rather we had the best personnel possible, not the marginal, instead of counting on luck.

It maybe a crapshoot, but you don't increase the odds against you by going against your best. It's almost like deciding that the playoffs aren't challenging enough, lets make it harder by using a lefty to face Mike Lowell instead of Lenny Harris. Our GM and managers have really helped with this 99 year drought.

We'll be a game out of first if we lose, and people are writing off this season.

Mostly all of guys are pathetic. You should be ashamed of yourselves to write off a season on losing a series at Wrigley to the Mets.

One GAME OUT OF FIRST PLACE.

Again, one game out of first place.

Keep away from the ledge or stop being a fan.

let me get this straight. marquis the third highest paid pitcher on the team, but because he's pitched like absolute crap, he's considered the #5 starter. and because he's not the worst #5 starter around, he's doing his job?

so basically, he wasn't doing his job as the #3 starter, and his crappiness makes him a #5, where he deserves more slack. so pitching worse actually helped him.

We can't score a run off of a 41 year old.

fontenot, theriot and pie have all gotten a significant amount of time this year... dusty wouldn't have given any of them a shot unless he had no choice. Rich Hill would probably be in the bullpen by now. And Lou has not abused his starters the way that Dusty did.

Question: at what point does all this stealing become rubbing it in? Maybe it's me but when you're up 4-0 in the 6th and Eyre is pitching then it's a blowout.

anyone annoyed by the girls behind home plate that don't seem to pay attention to a SINGLE bit of the game?

You know what they call those girls this game -

"happy".

happy to be at the game...or to just be on TV while they talk to their friends on the phone

Happy to not care about the outcome.

Nice to see all our flaws being exposed on national TV.

Marquis has been awful for 6 weeks, our OF completely sucks, our offense is inept against LHP and our trainers are beyond bad.

Yeah, aside from the fact that he hasn't.

Damn it DeRosa, what the hell

What was his July ERA again? 6?

Yeah, he's awesome.

Look at his game log. He hasn't been as bad as you make him out to be. As I said in another thread, he's the best 5th starter in baseball too.

You're right, I was wrong.

He's been bad for 9 weeks. His June ERA was over 5 and his July ERA was over 6.

Yeah, great, he can mix in one good start amidst 3 godawful ones. We should be lucky we have him for 3 years.

3 of his last 6 starts have been quality. No 5th starter in baseball has a better ERA than Marquis.

Keep the hyperbole coming.

This isn't my argument but I have to step in because Marquis hasn't been that bad overall. Look no further than the Brewers rotation and you'll see guys who have been more inconsistent. Marquis', arguably, the Cubs least dependable starter yet he hasn't been so bad that the Cubs are blown out every time he pitches.

This wouldn't be an issue if the Cubs had scored some runs tonight. Hell, I'm still not ready to concede this game (although, Eyre could make this a moot point).

The Brewers have a great offense, we don't. If we try and crap our rotation down to theirs, someone will win this division by 5 games.

I don't think we're that good. Sorry, just my opinion. Our hot streak is now over....we'll see how this team responds.

The offense is bad and getting worse, the pitching is getting worse outside of Z and Lilly.

Yep; if (ha ha ha) Marquis has back to back stellar outings, he'll be our #3 again... Isn't it obvious toyou that his rotation slot is determined by how poorly/well he pitches? Duh...

Exactly...all our pitching has to do is come back to earth and we are toast.
